In Stardew Valley, you can pretty much change anything about yourself and your loved ones, like getting a divorce and erasing your ex's memory, or even turning your children into doves so that they will fly away and disappear. While these are pretty drastic decisions, there are simpler things you can change if you're looking for something new.

If you're looking for a change, you can access customization for your character and alter their appearance completely in the game, for a small price. In this guide, we'll show you exactly where and how you can change your look in Stardew Valley.

How To Change Your Appearance

In Stardew Valley, you can't simply interact with a mirror, like in The Sims, to change your appearance. You need something much more complex to help you in this matter: magic. This means that you're going to need to get help from the Wizard.

The Shrine Of Illusions is the magic contraption that will help you change your appearance. However, the shrine is located in the Wizard's basement, and you'll need four hearts with him before he lets you go down there.

Getting To The Wizard's Tower

Head to the Wizard's Tower, on the western side of the map - west of Marnie's Ranch. The Wizard will be inside pretty much all the time, so you won't need to plan your schedule around his.

From here, you will need to start talking to him to increase your relationship. Bring him gifts as often as you can. The Wizard loves Purple Mushroom, Solar Essence, Super Cucumber, Void Essence, and all universally-loved gifts.

Entering The Wizard's Basement

Talking to the Wizard after reaching four hearts will trigger a dialogue that unlocks the entrance to the basement. To get to the basement go to the room in the back and interact with the trap door on the floor.

There is another way to get into the Wizard's basement. If you get into the Witch's Hut and step onto the red rune, you'll be teleported to the Wizard's basement, where an exact copy of the red rune can be found.

What Can You Change At The Shrine Of Illusions?

The Shrine of Illusions is on the left side of the room - it's a golden shrine. Interact with it, and for 500g, you'll be able to change the following characteristics.

  • Appearance (except Clothing)
  • Name
  • Favorite Thing
  • Gender
  • Appearance of your Pet (you will not be able to change pet type)

At the start of a game, you used this menu to change your clothing, but here, you won't be able to. If you want to change your clothes, you can unlock the sewing machine and tailor your own clothing.
