Posts 1Frost, Magma, Omni, and standard Geodes. The four Geodes lived in harmony, until-. Just kidding. But these items are no joke as they hold many useful ores and rare minerals and gems. But as you gather more and more of them, which ones are the best to hold onto or break open?
4 Geodes
Turns Out You Can Beat The Original
Ah, Geodes. In the majority of playthroughs, this will be the first type of Geode you come across, prompting a concise scene where your farmer raises it above their head, drawing your attention to the importance of this egg-shaped stone. Geodes, by themselves, aren't the important part of that, though, and what matters is what they can hold inside; just like there are four types of Geodes, there are also four types of things you can find tucked away inside, called Artifacts, Resources, Foraged Minerals, and Geode Minerals.

Do you find yourself having extra Prismatic Shards? Here are all the ways you can put them to use.
PostsArtifacts and Resources are items you can donate to Gunther or use in your daily managing of your farm, like ores, clay, and stone that can be used as crafting material, and coal, the resource needed to turn ores into bars for future use. Foraged Minerals are still classified as minerals, but they can either be used in crafting or placed in a forge to be smelted down, and Geode Minerals are all of the gems and stones that can also be donated to Gunther to fill up the Stardew Valley Museum. The best items in these Geodes are:
- Alamite
- Jamborite
- Celestine
- Dwarvish Helm
- Coal
3 Frozen Geodes
These Gems Are Stone Cold (Ba Dum Tiss)
Frozen Geodes are the next step up from the regular Geode, not just in this list but in-game too. You can begin to find them once you've reached floor 41 in The Mines, made more evident because of the change in scenery as the cave-like appearance of The Mines turns white and looks frozen over and because Frozen Geodes are one of the big differences between previous floors and the "frozen" floors, that means the items you can find when you crack them open are, generally, better than what you can find in common Geodes.

From visiting the Mines in the rain to using Luck, bombs and special slimes to your advantage, here's how to level up Mining in Stardew Valley.
PostsAside from having these more expensive minerals inside, you will also need to save one of the Frozen Geodes you come across if you have the Field Research Bundle that can appear on the Community Center Bulletin Board. But, aside from that, you can take your haul of Frozen Geodes to Clint and have him break them open with reckless abandon, and the best items you can find inside these stones are:
- Fairy Stone
- Kyanite
- Ocean Stone
- Ancient Drum
- Gold Ore
2 Magma Geodes
That's-a One-a Spicy Geode!
The further down in The Mines you go, the hotter it gets, and that's reflected not just in how floors look, but also in the kind of Geodes you can come across; Magma Geodes start to appear on floor 81 and can hold minerals and resources that, naturally, beat out the contents of Frozen Geodes. Another big difference is that, while a Frozen Geode is needed to complete a Community Center Bundle, the Magma Geode isn't and doesn't have any other purpose other than being broken open by the blacksmith.

There's (occasionally) gold in that there Quarry!
PostsYou should continue to have Clint break them open until you've donated everything that they can hold, and after that, if you find you have a large stack of them taking up space in your chests, they do sell for 150g. But there are quite a few minerals inside them that are more expensive than that. The best items you can find in Magma Geodes are:
- Star Shards
- Helvite
- Neptunite
- Fire Quartz
- Dwarf Gadget
- Iridium Ore
1 Omni Geodes
One Geode To Outshine Them All
Omni Geodes can start to appear in The Mines as early as floor 21 and have a chance to appear on every floor beyond that; the look of these special stones might hint at their importance, having different colored specks running through them. What sets this type of Geode apart from the others? All the items that you can find inside the three other Geodes can be found inside an Omni Geode, making it the only one you need.
That does mean the odds of finding certain items are less favorable, but it's not just about what's inside the stones, since Omni Geodes can be used with the Desert Trader. They are also the only Geode that has a shot at holding a Prismatic Shard inside of its rough exterior, and the best items you can find in this powerhouse of a Geode are:
- Prismatic Shard
- Star Shards
- Helvite
- Neptunite
- Fire Opal
- Fire Quartz
Omni Geodes are the only type of Geode that isn't Universally Disliked. Clint and the Dwarf both love Omni Geodes as gifts.
