A gaseous green ghoul that calls N’Erud in Remnant 2 its home, Tal’Ratha is a unique boss as it requires some extra steps to unlock, and comes with two sets of separate loot, and two different ways of fighting it. The rewards for either choice are pretty good and it’s worth the effort to get both sets.

It’s not too tricky to unlock this fight, but the brawl itself can be a bit of a challenge, especially the Metaphysical form of the boss. So to help you take this gangrenous globule down a few notches, here’s a helpful guide on how to defeat Tal’Ratha’s Metaphysical form in Remnant 2.
How To Find Tal’Ratha
As we’ve said already, Tal’Ratha is one of the easiest bosses to find. He’s in N’Erud and your quest will usually begin with talking to him through the intercom in the Forgotten Prison as you’ll usually start there in a new game or a re-roll. If not, then you can either go to the Forgotten Prison manually and talk to him there or if you’re going through the quest line for The Custodian, he’ll ask you to go hunt down Tal’Ratha.
So you’ll encounter this boss if you’re clearing out all of N’Erud at some point.
After speaking to Tal’Ratha, he’ll tell you to go find the Soul Sparks. This is a unique quest item that’s found in the second area open area of N’Erud and you’ll usually have to go through a dungeon or boss fight to get to it. Inside this new open spot, look for a large building that resembles a bunker half-buried in the ground. Go inside and go down the elevator, the item will be inside.
The bunker is normally found next to or near the large drilling machine. If you hear its sirens, you’re getting close.
Word of warning, as soon as the item is picked up, Zombies will usually spawn and ambush you. Deal with them or just leave, it’s a purely optional fight. Don’t head back to the Forgotten Prison, instead, Tal’Ratha will want to meet you at the The Temple of The Astropaths.
This is a large temple with a glowing circular light at the top between two spires. You’ll be followed by a spotlight from it, which will be your sign that you’ve found the right building. The levels and placements of zones within them are completely random, so you may have to do a bit of running around to find it. But rest assured, it’s always in that second open area.
We covered how to beat Tal’Ratha’s normal physical form (available here) along with a more detailed walkthrough on how to complete his quest.
Head inside and speak to Tal’Ratha, but make sure to choose the option in the dialogue tree that results in him eating you. The large beast will swallow you whole, at which point you’ll be transported to an ethereal and dark realm where the boss fight will begin.
Good luck.
How To Beat Tal’Ratha’s Metaphysical Form
Tal’Ratha’s physical form is tough enough on its own, but the Metaphysical version is a slight step up. He has some of the same attacks as his corporeal self, more or less, but there are a few extra surprises thrown in that can catch you out. Especially if he gets some distance between the two of you as there are some cheeky ranged attacks that are particularly nasty.
The biggest problem you’re going to have in this fight is the boss teleporting. He’ll use it often and it will usually result in him appearing right next to you for a big meaty smack, so get ready to run or roll when you see him phase out. Like his physical form, the head and mouth are the Weak Points, so aim your biggest gun at those.
The rest of his body can still take damage, but it will be minimal. Elemental damage is recommended, especially anything that does BURNING as it’s extra numbers to throw at his meaty health bar. If you can, try to avoid taking this boss on solo as it can be a little relentless at times. Keep backing up, pour on the damage to his face, roll through those attacks and you should be fine.

Tal’Ratha Metaphysical's Attacks
To help you beat this boss in Remnant 2, we’ll break down his attack patterns so you can learn what to watch out for and where you should be standing when these pop off. First up there’s a ranged energy ball that charges in his right hand then fires in a straight line. But that’s not the only distance-covering weapon he has. For example, he’ll vomit up black ichor blobs at a 45-degree angle like artillery.
The worst attack that you’ll need to watch out for is his summon stars. These blast in every direction four times, then he follows it up with a large body slam and more stars that create an arena-spanning blast. It’s a big attack you don’t want to be anywhere near, so start running if you see the stars coming in.
Next is his teleport attacks, these are either an instant transmission to your position with a melee swing follow-up, or a vertical blip straight up to add more height for a damaging AOE body slam. He’ll also use his phasing ability to chain his charging grab up to three times, so watch out for that one.
It’s a lot to take in, but generally, the ones you want to watch out for are the teleports and the Star Summon. The phasing is fast, which can often make the boss feel like it’s giving you no breathing room and with a relatively small arena, it’s difficult to get out of the way of the celestial barrage.
To help you remember all of that, here’s a short list of what attacks Tal’Ratha’s Metaphysical Form will throw out.
Attack
Description
Starlight Beam
An energy ball is blasted from Tal’Ratha’s right hand. Multiple shots can occur.
Star Shower
Tal’Ratha summons stars in four omnidirectional blasts and follows up with a slam and more stars.
Vomit Blast
Tal’Ratha vomits out black blobs that have splash damage.
Teleport Charge
Tal’Ratha gets on all fours and charges forward trying to eat you. He’ll teleport and chain this three times.
Teleport Slam
Tal’Ratha will teleport upwards and follow up with a body slam.
Teleport Smack
Tal’Ratha will teleport directly next to you, or a random party member and then perform multiple melee swings.
All of these attacks can be rolled through, it's just a matter of mastering the timing.
Rewards For Beating Tal’Ratha Metaphysical
Taking down Tal’Ratha’s Metaphysical ghost body nets you a nice selection of rewards for your efforts. First off, you get the usual collection of Lumenite Crystals, Scrap, and a Tome of Knowledge. But you also earn the Shining Essence Echo, which you need for the Custodians quest line, and the Acidic Jawbone, which is the alternate drop item for the boss.
The Jawbone is what you’re primarily after. This disgusting bit of detritus can be given to McCabe back in Ward13 and turned into a chunky melee weapon called the Gas Giant Hammer. This heavy two-handed weapon has Tal’Ratha’s face on it and it specializes in some pretty nasty Acid based attacks.
The Gas Giant has a base damage stat of 74, a Critical Hit Chance of 3 percent, an eight percent Stagger Modifier, and an impressive 95 percent Weak Spot Damage. It also applies CORRODED to basic attacks, so it’s a nice elemental debuff for chunking through highly damage-resistant enemies or robots. Plus, the weapon comes with a built-in Weapon Mod called Dying Breath.
Dying Breath is tied to your weapon damage and your neutral back dash. It’s a little tricky to pull off, but when you charge up the hammer with basic attacks, then do a Neutral Backdash Charge Attack, the hammer holder does a mighty jumping slam which creates an Acidic explosion spanning three meters. It also leaves behind an Acid Cloud which damages nearby foes and lasts for up to 15 seconds.
