Runescape: Dragonwilds has stayed true to the Runescape universe by keeping most of the weapons in its new survival crafting game. You can use your standard sword, or dagger, or even a mace, but if you want to use a ranged weapon, then you'll need a bow. Crafting one isn't as easy as the others, though.

Some of the items in the game can only be crafted after you get the recipe for them, and there are different ways to get recipes. Some are unlocked through skill levels, while others, like the bow, are unlocked after collecting a specific material.

Runescape: Dragonwilds is currently in early access and so the content may change with time. We'll update this guide as needed in the future.

How To Unlock The Bow Recipe

Crafting recipes in the game can be unlocked in different ways, but if you want the bow, you'll need to start gathering plants. That's because you'll need to first gather Flax to unlock the Spinning Wheel crafting bench.

How To Find Flax

You can find flax early in the game by going to the area between Temple Woods and Bramblemead Valley. There you'll find flax growing around the village ruins. When you first pick up flax, you'll unlock the recipe for the Spinning Wheel.

You will also need arrows for your bow, and to unlock that recipe, you'll need to gather feathers by defeating chickens.

To use the Spinning Wheel, you'll need to place it inside a house, just as long as it has a floor and a roof, the spindle will work. Place some flax inside to create wool. When you get wool for the first time in the game, it will unlock the Ash Shortbow as well as other recipes.

How To Craft A Bow And Arrows

Now that you know how to unlock the recipe for the Ash Shortbow, you'll want to craft it. To do that, you'll need to use a Crafting Table and select the Ash Shortbow under weapons. The weapon needs the following items to craft:

  • 12x Ash Logs
  • 3x Coarse Threads

How To Craft Arrows

You'll also need arrows to fire from the bow, and for that, you'll need:

  • 1x Stone
  • 1x Ash Log
  • 1 X Feather

This will make the basic Stone Arrow. Each batch will create 33 arrows, but you can easily go through that in combat, so make a couple more batches since they're very light.

How To Use A Bow

Now that you have a bow and arrows, it's time to use them. There are two ways you can use bows in the game: the first one is to just fire using the right mouse button. This is great for fighting enemies at close range, since it can be chained to a series of attacks.

Doing quick shots with the left mouse button uses more stamina per shot than the aimed attack with the right mouse button. Keep that in mind, as you don't want to lose all your stamina in the middle of a fight.

The second way of using the bow is by aiming it with the right mouse button. It takes a while for the bow to get accurate, but you'll have more control over where to shoot this way. This is great if you want to start a fight with the bow or if you're hunting deer.
