Pokemon TCG Pocket Has Already Been Downloaded 60 Million Times

Summary
- The Pokemon Company has revealed Pokemon TCG Pocket has already been downloaded 60 million times.
- Not quite as successful as Pokemon Go during the same period, but closer than some might expect.
- An update on Pocket's numbers comes shortly after the reveal of its next booster pack, Mythical Island.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has quickly become one of those phenomenons where every time you hear about how many people are playing or how much money it has earned, it boggles the mind all over again. Following confirmation of when its next booster pack will be introduced to the game, The Pokemon Company has revealed seven weeks on from the mobile game's launch that it has been downloaded more than 60 million times.
Pokemon published a statement celebrating the game's massive success on Thursday revealing that as of December 12, 2024, so 43 days after it was rolled out worldwide on October 30, more than 60 million people have downloaded Pocket. The statement doesn't include an update on how much those players have been spending on the free-to-play game, but the last time we checked in, they were averaging $6.5 million spent per day on Pocket.

Time to fill those gaps!
PostsPocket has quickly become Pokemon's second-biggest mobile launch, eclipsing Pokemon Masters which previously held the silver medal. It still doesn't appear to be hitting the lofty heights that mobile pacesetter Pokemon Go did during its launch back in 2016, though. While the exact figures aren't clear eight years later, Pokemon Go appears to have been downloaded 100 million times during its launch month alone.

Not Quite As Good As Pokemon Go, But A Closer Second Than You Might Expect
It's unlikely the goal here was for Pocket to surpass the success of Pokemon Go, though. As popular as Pokemon's trading card game has remained for the last quarter of a century, a mobile game that replicates it was unlikely to appeal to quite as many people as a game that fills the outside world with Pokemon for you to go and catch. That Pocket has already enjoyed so much success will be seen as a huge win, even if it isn't quite as big as Go.
This is all with so much more yet to come too. Pokemon Pocket's first new booster pack, Mythical Island, was revealed today, and it's only five days until the new pack will be available in-app. Mew is the star of Mythical Island, its ex card shown off in the trailer below. Aerodactyl ex, a Vaporeon illustration rare, and Pocket debuts for Morelull and Liepard were also confirmed.
It's also evident from an in-app achievement that The Pokemon Company plans on adding at least 5,000 unique cards to Pocket. The card-collecting achievements start at 500 cards and go up to 5,000. Impossible to get any of them right now, but eventually, if all goes to plan, there will be 5,000 cards to collect in Pokemon Pocket.
