The Pokemon TCG mirrors the latest inclusions from the main Pokemon series, and one of the biggest examples is Baby Pokemon, a special set of pre-evolutions. Baby Pokemon are a longstanding subgroup of Pokemon introduced in Generation Two as an extra form for existing Pokemon, like Pikachu, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff.

The Pokemon TCG is full of cards from each of the 19 Baby Pokemon, but a select group of them stands out thanks to their incredibly valuable promo and vintage cards. They might be small, but these Baby Pokemon boast large price tags for some of their best cards.

Cards are ordered according to their TCGplayer market price. Cards without a market price are not included.

Magby: Expedition (Holo Rare) – $53.73

From The Embers

Expedition is a set packed with valuable Pokemon featuring exceptional designs, but Magby isn't the first one to come to mind. Despite that, this Baby Pokemon debuted with an exceptionally valuable Holo Rare that sets the standard at over $50 for the best Baby Pokemon cards in the Pokemon TCG.

Magby, the pre-evolution of Magmar, might be small, but this card proves that even Baby Pokemon can serve up some heat in the right circumstances.

Togepi: Southern Islands Promo (Promo) – $71.94

The Colorful Tropics

Togepi takes the baton from Magby with a beautiful card from the Southern Islands collection – a rare set of vintage promo cards featuring Pokemon enjoying a tropical vacation. Togepi's card features a stunning reverse holo pattern with cosmos holo swirls, giving it an eye-catching quality.

Togepi is one of the most recognizable Baby Pokemon thanks to multiple anime appearances as Misty's beloved little egg. Togepi served as one of the earliest introductions to this new group of Pokemon and enjoyed popularity by appearing alongside Pikachu as co-mascots of the Johto series.

Riolu: SDCC 2009 (Promo) – $95.49

A Comic Con Exclusive

Riolu, the pre-evolution of Lucario, retains most of the same qualities of its original form, but takes on a miniature appearance that makes Riolu the cute counterpart to Lucario's serious, determined demeanor. This rare Riolu card was given out as an exclusive promo card for the 2009 San Diego Comic Con event, and has since become one of the most popular Baby Pokemon cards.

Riolu's adorable design is on display in this rare promo artwork, and its relatively small roster of cards doesn't offer any comparable options. Considering this card's rarity and its association with Lucario, one of the most popular Pokemon in the TCG, it's no surprise Riolu is so expensive.

Pichu: Nintendo Promos (Prerelease Staff) – $100.00

Promo Perfection

The list of valuable Nintendo Promo cards is impressive enough, but perhaps the most impressive part is Pichu's inclusion among the most valuable. This baby version of Pikachu was created as one of the headliners for the original group of Baby Pokemon released in Johto, intended to capitalize on Pikachu's popularity and make the new gimmick feel familiar.

Pichu looks excited in this rare Nintendo Promo that portrays this beloved Baby Pokemon as a fun-loving, energetic creature. The 'Prerelease' and 'Staff' stamps are the keys to this card value, as this version was only distributed to staff members at corresponding Nintendo distribution events.

Pichu: Expedition (Holo Rare) – $116.98

A Rising Pichu Tide

Pichu hands the torch off to itself, moving from a valuable promo card back to the Expedition set, which features another gem Baby Pokemon card. Pichu one-ups its smile on the Nintendo Promo as this version features the Pokemon looking as happy as possible.

The bright blue sky and fluttering flowers in the background add the perfect amount of whimsy to this card, giving it enough eye appeal to let Pichu shine.

Pichu: Neo Genesis (Holo Rare) – $152.00

A Pichu Parade

Pichu's final claim to fame among the most valuable Baby Pokemon cards is its Neo Genesis Holo Rare. This crystal-clear color combination features Pichu flanked by red and blue hues on either side, along with a smattering of holographic blobs to catch your attention.

While it's a bit more zoomed out than the previous two Pichu cards thus far, this Pichu from Neo Genesis offers a much clearer look at the Pokemon as it appears to pop out like it's on a different layer. The almost 3D quality of this card makes it a standout among the best Baby Pokemon.

Happiny: Countdown Calendar (Promo) – $175.00

Don't Judge A Card By Its Cover

Happiny has arguably one of the biggest surprises among Baby Pokemon, with its Countdown Calendar promo card soaring towards the $200 mark at an alarming rate. This card may not boast the same level of holographic excellence as some of the others, but its rarity significantly contributes to its cost.

The unique clay-like art style might not be for everyone, but collectors of the best Baby Pokemon TCG cards will need to add this rare gem to their collections.

Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX: Alternate Art Promos (Promo) – $222.56

Together As One

If you're looking for the pinnacle of Baby Pokemon cards, look no further than the adorable Alternate Art Promo featuring Togepi, Cleffa, and Igglybuff. These three Pokemon might not command much money separately, but when combined on such a brightly colored card, the sky was the limit.

Togepi may be the most popular of the three, but the collection of berries and different Poke Balls helps to unite these three in the most vibrant depiction of any Baby Pokemon.
