Summary

  • The custom shiny Magikarp Game Boy Advance SP that has been going somewhat viral can be yours for $300.
  • The retro consoles have been restored and redesigned by Supergusiland and can even come in a custom old-school box if you want them too.
  • Other option extras including LED buttons and a USB-C port will also drive up the price of your order.

As the Nintendo Switch's release slate gets thinner and thinner as we venture deeper into 2024, the gaming world is bracing itself for the reveal of what's coming next. Nintendo has confirmed that news is coming before the end of the current fiscal year, so worst case - and most likely - scenario is we've got ten more months to wait. If you need something new to pass the time between now and then, perhaps looking into Nintendo's past rather than its future by picking up a shiny Game Boy Advance SP is something that might interest you.

As console creators are rightly pressured into preserving their gaming pasts and giving us ways to play titles previously locked to older platforms, retro gaming has never been bigger. Supergusiland is clearly well aware of that, hence it creating a custom Game Boy Advance SP with golden Magikarp on its shell. The whole console is gold, as a matter of fact, with the stunning Magikarp art on its lid, and similar art featuring shiny Gyarados when you open it up.

According to My Nintendo News, the artwork used is inspired by the art used on the Magikarp card in the Pokemon TCG's Neo Revelation expansion. There's even an option to have the GBA SP shipped to you in a retro box, complete with even more retro Magikarp artwork, that has been created by Tutto Box. This isn't a one-of-a-kind scenario either, nor are there so few units of this console available that it's going to cost whoever wants one the Earth to make it their own.

A Shiny New GBA SP In 2024, What A Time To Be Alive

While I'm sure the number of Magikarp SPs is limited as it appears to be a relatively small operation, if you want to buy one, you can do so right now. The base model of the custom console costs $300, but the price goes up depending on the bells and whistles you want it to have. The LED buttons you can see in the video are an optional extra that will be tacked onto the price, and you can also request HDMI and USB-C ports be included, again if you're willing to pay the extra. Get the console with all of the optional extras and it pushes the price up to more than $500.

The Magikarp SP doesn't appear to be listed on Supergusiland, but you can message the console's creator for additional information or if you're interested in buying one. There are a lot of other options on the site too, most of which are far cheaper than the Magikarp one, including custom looks for the original Game Boy Advance and the Game Boy Color.
