The latest 7-star Tera Raid to appear in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is Emboar, the Unovan starter that made everyone sick of Fire/Fightingt-types. Emboar's strategy is built around using very strong moves — that are made stronger by its hidden ability — and then taking advantage of its high HP to negate the effects of recoil damage.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Evolve Finizen & Unlock Hero Form

Finizen is a new dolphin Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet with a unique evolution method. Here's how to evolve it and use its Hero Form.

While Emboar will body anything it can hit that doesn't have a high enough Defense stat, it doesn't actually have an answer to Ground-types. It'll be a long fight though — Emboar's bulk makes it a slog to get through before the time runs out and a critical hit can spell doom for most teams.

Event Information

Emboar will be available until Sunday and then come back from June 21 to June 23. When you complete the raid the first time, you'll be able to catch Emboar, and receive the TM for Wild Charge.

Emboar will have perfect IVs, its Hidden Ability, and the unique Mightiest Mark. You can find them in special black Tera crystal dens around Paldea.

If you do not see any crystals on your map, connect to the internet and open Poke Portal.

Emboar's moveset is entirely built around its hidden ability, Reckless. Reckless increases the power of recoil moves by 20 percent. In normal gameplay that benefit would be offset by the Pokemon taking more recoil damage, but Tera Raid Emboar has something in the ballpark of 14,000 hit points, so any recoil damage it takes is negligible.

As you can see, most of Emboar's moves are high-powered and do recoil damage, but it has no coverage for Ground-Type Pokemon, so you can use that to your advantage.

Thankfully Bulk-Up is a special move that it can only use twice when it's at 40 percent HP, so you don't have to worry about it spamming its stats sky-high.

The Best Pokemon To Solo Emboar

There are multiple Pokemon I've used to solo Emboar, but unfortunately none of them are as consistent as I'd like because Emboar's critical hits ignore your defense boosts, and thus ruin any attempt where it lands one.

For all of these builds, you can increase your chances of winning by Hyper Training your Pokemon in Montenevra, using a PP Up or PP Max on all your main attacking moves, and resetting until you get a raid with a Staraptor or Tuaros for Intimidate or a Gardevoir for Life Dew.

If you're having trouble gathering supplies to train your Pokemon, there will be Blissey Raids during the second week of this event that will drop extra Tera Shard and Exp Candies.

Dachsbun Is One Hot Dog

Dachsbun's ability Well-Baked Body makes it immune to fire-type moves. Add in the Ground Tera-type and Emboar can't hit you with half of its repeatable moves, and you resist Head Smash.

The main issues with this strategy are whether Emboar hits you with Flare Blitz enough times to make your defense decent, and, once again, critical hits.

Use the following build:

Nature

Moves

EVs

Level

Well-Baked Body

Ground

Metronome

Modest

Mud-Slap, Tera Blast, Body Press

252 Def, 252 Atk, 4 HP

100

At the beginning of the fight, use Mud-Slap three times. As soon as you can, Terastalize and start spamming Tera Blast. The Metronome will make the move stronger each time it hits, allowing you to do enough damage to eat through Emboar's HP.

Using Cheers doesn't reset the Metronome counter, so any time you get to red health, use a Cheer to heal back up. When you run out of Tera Blast PP, use Body Press to get rid of the last sliver of Emboar's Health.

Heal cheers randomly heal back 20-100 percent of a Pokemon's HP, so this is another area where you can just get horribly unlucky.

If you're fortunate enough to have friends you can coordinate with, pair Dachsbun with a Pokemon that uses Life Dew, Helping Hand, or Acid Spray to help improve Dachsbun's damage output. Still, be wary of Emboar steamrolling anything with poor Defense.

This isn't a strategy that works well with random online matches, as Dachsbun needs the full timer to do enough damage.

Archaludon Tanks Hits Like A Champ

Archaludon's ability Stamina is very useful, as it will boost your defense every time you're hit as opposed to only when hit by certain moves.

The downsides are that Archaludon is locked behind the DLC, and of course a bad crit can ruin your run.

Reflect, Iron Defense, Body Press

252 Def, 252 HP

Use Reflect on your first turn, then use Body Press until Emboar resets your stats. Once that happens, use Iron Defense twice so Archaludon has maximum defense.

You can also use Reflect here again if you'd like.

From here spam Body Press until Emboar faints, being sure to cheer whenever you get into red health. If you run out of Body Press PP, use Earthquake to finish Emboar off.

Archaludon is better for online raids, though be wary that if you pair with people who faint a lot you won't be able to pull off this strategy.

Annihilape, The Tera Raid Classic

Annihilape is very good due to its signature move Rage Fist, which gets stronger each time it's hit directly and fainting does not reset the counter.

Annihilape's main weakness is its frailty, as it's not the best at surviving that many hits. However, the Shell Bell can help here.

Adamant

Bulk Up, Rage Fist

252 Def, 252 Atk, 4 HP

100

Spam Rage Fist until you faint. This should be enough that when you come back you can use your terastalization. However, before you terastalize, use Bulk Up twice. From there spam Rage Fist, using the Heal Cheer when you get burned.

When Emboar uses Bulk Up, use it two more times yourself. Then spam Rage Fist until Emboar is defeated. As long as you can stay alive, that should get you through Emboar's HP bar and allow you to win the fight.

Any strategy that involves your Pokemon fainting is bad for random online matches, but if you have friends who can reliably help raise Annihilape's stats, then you'll be fine.
