Pokemon Go's latest event, the Rediscover Kanto Event, comes with a new in-game update, adding new features and making changes to everyday gameplay. In addition to this update, the Rediscover Kanto Event will make several event-themed bonuses available to all players for a limited time, and is even debuting a Pokemon appearing in Pokemon Go for the first time.

This event will be taking place for over two weeks, active from Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10am PDT to Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 8pm PDT. Below you can find information on the Rediscover Kanto Event and some of the features that have been brought to the game through Pokemon Go's latest update!

Updated Biome Feature

With Pokemon Go's latest Rediscover Update, they are reintroducing the biome feature, a featured that has previously been used during specific events. The biome of a given area will be determined based on where you're specifically playing, including Forest, City, Mountain, and Beach biomes.

With this new update, you will find a change in the Pokemon you typically encounter, depending on which specific biome you're playing in. For this event, this includes different Pokemon that were originally introduced in Pokemon's Kanto region.

The Pokemon encounter screen will visually reflect the specific biome you're playing in.

Below you can find each of these four biomes and some examples of which Pokemon from the Kanto region you can find there.

Pokemon Go Debut: Wiglett

With the start of the Rediscover Kanto Event, there will be a Pokemon appearing in Pokemon Go for the first time: Wiglett. You can expect to find Wiglett in the Beach biome following the release of this new update.

This Water-type Pokemon only has a single evolution, Wugtrio, also a Water-type Pokemon. To evolve Wiglett into Wugtrio, you will need to use 50 Wiglett Candy, obtained by catching or transferring different Wiglett or Wugtrio.

With Wiglett being a rare Pokemon to encounter, make sure to use Pinap Berries or Silver Pinap Berries when catching this Pokemon.

This will increase the number of Candies earned upon a successful catch.

Event Bonuses

There will be four different bonuses active during this event, each having to do with different aspects of the game. These four bonuses include:

  • Seven-day PokeStop spin streaks will reward you with more XP.
  • Seven-day Pokemon catch streaks will reward you with more XP.
  • Opening different Gifts, Pokemon trading, battling with friends in Raids or Gyms, and Trainer Battles will increase Friendship levels more than usual.
  • Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle encountered in their specific biomes will have a higher likelihood of being Shiny.

If you know you are going to be completing your seven-day Pokemon catch or PokeStop spin streak, use the Lucky Egg item beforehand.

This will further increase the XP that you gain from these streaks, doubling all XP that you gain for 30 minutes.

Event Featured Attacks

During this event, there are specific Pokemon that will receive a Featured Attack when evolved, an attack that is typically unavailable to a Pokemon unless an Elite Fast TM or Elite Charged TM is used. Below you can find each of these Featured Attacks and the Pokemon evolution that needs to be completed to obtain it.

Event Research

Event Field Research Tasks

You will have the opportunity to obtain different Event Field Research Tasks from PokeStops during the Rediscover Kanto Event. Some of these Event Field Research Tasks will reward you with Mega Energy upon their completion, including Venusaur Mega Energy, Charizard Mega Energy, and Blastoise Mega Energy.

Make sure to take advantage of these Event Field Research Tasks, providing you with tons of Mega Energy, the resource needed to Mega Evolve your own Pokemon.

Event Special Research

There is also a brand-new Special Research that has been released with the Rediscover Kanto Event, available to all players, free-of-charge! To complete this Special Research, you will need to catch different Pokemon that originated in the Kanto region, in addition to other in-game tasks, rewarding you with:

  • Different in-game items
  • XP
  • Stardust
  • Event-themed Pokemon Encounters

You will automatically gain access to this Special Research for logging in during the Rediscover Kanto Event.

Even after this event has concluded, you will still be able to complete this Special Research and claim its rewards.
