Following the same format as the previous Raid Day, the Primal Groudon Raid Day will only be a three-hour event, taking place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 2pm to 5pm local time. With Primal Groudon and Groudon Primal Energy on the line, we have put together a complete guide for this event to help make sure you don't miss out on any of the bonuses available!

What Is Primal Groudon Raid Day?

For this three-hour Raid Day event, Primal Groudon will be the featured Pokemon. This means that during this event window, Primal Groudon will be appearing in most Raid locations, giving you plenty of opportunities to complete this otherwise rare encounter.

If you're looking to get your hands on a Shiny Groudon, you're in luck, as this event will give you a great opportunity to do so. Groudon that you encounter after completing Primal Groudon Raids during this event will have significantly higher odds of being Shiny than what is typical.

With Groudon Primal Energyonly being available as a reward for completing Primal Groudon Raids, this is an excellent opportunity to obtain tons of this rare resource. Groudon Primal Energy is required to Primal Revert one of your Groudon into Primal Groudon, so do your best to earn as much as possible during this Raid Day.

Raid Day Bonuses

There will be additional bonuses active and available to all players during this Raid Day, allowing you to maximize the amount of Raids that you participate in during this event. Similar to other Raid Days, these two bonuses include:

  • The number of free Raid Passes from Pokemon Gyms will be increased from one to six.
  • The maximum number of Remote Raid Pass uses will be increased to 20 (from Friday, March 22, at 5pm PDT to Saturday, March 23, at 8pm PDT).

Like Primal Kyogre's Raid Day, there will be a paid Event Ticket that you can purchase at the Pokemon Go in-game shop. This event ticket will cost $5.00 USD, and will grant you access to even more Raid Day bonuses, stacking on top of those that are available to all players for free.

The following four bonuses will be available to all ticket-holders on Saturday, March 23, from 2pm local time to 10pm local time.

  • Increase in the maximum number of free Raid Passes from Pokemon Gyms from six to 14 total free Raid Passes.
  • Successfully completing Raid Battles will give you twice as much Stardust.
  • Successfully completing Raid Battles will give you 50 percent more XP.
  • Higher likelihood of earning Rare Candy XL after successfully completing Raid Battles.

Primal Groudon Raid Strategies

Taking down Primal Groudon in its Primal Raid will not be easy, so it's important to properly prepare for this battle ahead of time, giving you the best chance to succeed.

When it comes to the size of your Raid group, it's recommended that you attempt this Primal Raid with at least four to six Trainers. This is the minimum group size that is typically able to succeed in this Raid battle, so if you can put together a larger group, it is always recommended.

You will also want to factor in Primal Groudon's Ground and Fire dual-typing when selecting which Pokemon to battle with in this Raid.

This specific typing leaves Primal Groudon vulnerable to both Ground and Water-type attacks. That being said, Water-type Pokemon with Water-type attacks prove to be the optimal choice due to Primal Groudon's double-weakness to this type.

Unfortunately, Primal Groudon's typing provides it with far more resistance compared to its vulnerabilities. This includes resistance to Electric, Fairy, Bug, Fire, Poison, and Steel-type attacks, so make sure to avoid battling with Pokemon that use them.
