Several Mythical and Legendary Pokemon have been brought to Pokemon Go over the years, some proving to be among the most popular in the franchise. For the most part, these powerful Pokemon can only be acquired following their defeat in Five-Star Raids, with a few unique exceptions.

Genesect falls into this category, with its five different forms being available in Five-Star Raids. You'll want to go into this Raid knowing the "ins and outs" of this Mythical Pokemon, securing you a chance to catch Genesect and add it to your Pokemon Go roster.

Different Genesect Drives

There are five different forms of Genesect, each possessing a different Drive. Although this does not change its Bug and Steel dual-typing, it changes the type of its signature Charged Attack, Techno Blast.

The form of Genesect will not change randomly; rather, each time this Mythical Pokemon is in the Five-Star Raid rotation, it will possess one of these Drives for the entirety of its duration.

That being said, the recommended strategies and counters will remain the same regardless of Genesect's form.

Below you can find each of these different Genesect Drives and the type of Charged Attack it will have.

Genesect: Strengths And Weaknesses

There are both pros and cons that come with Genesect's Bug and Steel dual-typing, all of which should be considered when deciding which Pokemon to use against it.

Genesect has a large array of resistances due to this combination of types, leading you to avoid using the majority of your Pokemon due to their ineffectiveness against this opponent. This includes Pokemon that use Normal, Bug, Steel, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Fairy, Poison, and Grass-type attacks.

Avoid using Pokemon with Poison and Grass-type attacks at all costs when battling against Genesect.

With both Steel and Bug types resisting these types of attacks, Genesect possesses a double-resistance to both Poison and Grass-type attacks.

With its specific dual-typing, Fire-type attacks are the only ones that are super effective against Genesect.

Although this greatly limits the Pokemon recommended for this Raid battle, this is a double weakness, drastically increasing the damage they deal against Genesect.

Although you should possess the necessary firepower to take out Genesect when using Fire-type attacks, it's recommended that you battle with Pokemon that will benefit from the Same Type Attack Bonus.

This means using Fire-type Pokemon with attacks that match this typing, further increasing their overall damage.

Recommended Group Size

Although Genesect is a powerful and bulky opponent, its double weakness to Fire-type attacks greatly decreases this encounter's difficulty.

As long as all members of your Raid team are taking advantage of this extreme vulnerability, you should easily be able to defeat Genesect with a group of three to five Trainers.

If those who you are Raiding with aren't using Fire-types or are lower-leveled Trainers, it's recommended that you increase the size of your group to compensate for this.

This will ensure that you're defeating Genesect and don't miss out on your chance to catch this Rare Mythical Pokemon.

Even though Genesect proves to be among the easier Five-Star Raid Pokemon to defeat, Mega Evolving or Primal Reverting Pokemon is always recommended.

This will further increase your chances of defeating this Raid Pokemon, increasing the damage of specific types of attacks while the powered-up Pokemon is on the battlefield.

Genesect: Best Counter Picks
