One of the best features of Vermintide 2 is the variety of customization available for each particular hero. Not only can you spec each of their talents for your particular tastes, but they also have further specialization with three careers (four if you count those being added by DLC). So there's a lot to play around with for your particular hero.

One particular build that doesn't get a lot of love is the Waystalker. Which is a shame as it's a good all-rounder, offering decent ranged and melee damage output and if built in the right way it can be the bane of most monsters in Vermintide 2. So if you're planning on trying out the Waystalker or you want your wise-cracking Wood Elf to pack a bit more of a punch, then here are a couple of tips to make the most of this Skaven Slaying Ranger.

Updated December 8th, 2022 by Matthew Mckeown: Fatshark have been busy since our last check-in. Vermintide 2 has had a wealth of content ranging from new cosmetic skins and maps, to an entirely new mode that takes the Ubersreik Five into the shifting realms of the Chaos Wastes in the far-flung northern wilds of the old world.

Along with those, there have also been new roles added as well with Kerillian gaining a Sisters Of The Thorn subclass with additional tweaking of her old ones, like the Waystalker. It's an often underused role, but for those that use it, there are always new things to learn. With that in mind, here are some extra tips for a Vermintide 2 Waystalker build.

15 The Waystalker's Role Is Special Killing

When you first try out Kerillian your initial reaction would be to wade into the throng of monsters like the other Ubersreik Five with your sword waving around. Whilst this can work for lower difficulties when you push past Champion and beyond you need to think more about your role in the team.

At level 30 with the right Traits can render almost if not all Specials essentially obsolete. She packs the furthest range of all the heroes so your main goal should be to focus on taking down things like Packmasters, Leeches, Ratling Gunners, and Warpfire throwers from a distance before they can cause any problems for the party.

14 Your Melee Weapon Defines Your Party Role

Just like how Kruber's Zweihander is perfect for Crowd Control, the Waystalker's sword of choice will dictate what role you will be playing in any adventure or expedition into the Chaos Wastes with your friends.

For example, Elven Axes, Swords, or Daggers provide a high attack speed, so they're good for a DPS build that can take down boss health bars. Whilst the Spear is better for higher crit chance and a reduced block cost, perfect for melting through any specials that pop up. Or if you want to cause a lot of damage with big swings into groups of cannon fodder then the Glaive is worth looking into.

13 Pick The Best Bow For You

Kerillian is primarily a ranged character, she is a Wood Elf after all, so whilst bows may not seem overly important to the massive mosh pit of violence that most Vermintide 2 runs devolve into, having the right one with you can definitely make the difference.

For example, the Hagbane allows for a lot of poison buff stacking, whilst a Swiftbow lets you empty your quiver into a horde in seconds to think it out. Or if you want a long-range sniper that can take down Specials or Chaos Warriors then the Longbow is what you need. Plus the Waystalker build doubles the effective range for bows with the Waywatchers Bow passive ability, so regardless of your choice you're still going to be able to potshot things from afar.

12 Amaranthe's Regen Is Your Best Friend

Healing items in Vermintide 2 are few and far between, especially on the higher difficulties or Challenge Missions. So Kerillian's passive healing of 3 health every 10 seconds thanks to Amaranthe is pretty handy as it can keep her alive through even the toughest of runs.

This constantly active ability will keep your health bar topped up at half health after each fight and if you combine it with Rejuvenating Locus it will also regen the health of other party members. This is ideal for keeping everyone fighting fit until the end of your adventure in this popular Warhammer co-op survival game by Fatshark.

11 Ranged Builds Need Ammo Recovery Traits

Vermintide 2 likes to throw a lot of monsters at you and often making every shot count even as the Waystalker is borderline impossible. There are never enough arrows in your quiver to handle the hordes of Chaos, so bring along a Trait that helps with Ammo Recovery.

Kurnous' Reward as an example is a good pick as this will allow you to recover 30% of your ammunition for killing a Special or Elite enemy. So if your plan is to sit back in the ranks and take down the high-risk targets then grab Kurnous' Reward when you hit level 30 so you can keep firing out those volleys from afar.

10 Hagbane Bow Is The Bane Of Bosses

At times the mini-bosses in Vermintide 2 can be particularly tough, especially if the run is already wearing down the party. Having a Hagbane Bow handy as a Waystalker can make short work of most of the creatures in the sub-boss roster such as the Rat Ogre or the Minotaurs that were added by the Winds of Magic DLC that was introduced to the game a while ago.

This is because of the Hagbane's ability to give 110% poison damage for a regular shot or if its charged shot is used its explosive poison payload can keep a horde at bay for quite a while. can steadily drain a boss's health whilst you kite around it. Also, being able to tank through bosses like this can be particularly handy in a Chaos Wastes Expedition as they're often guarding a Chest of Trials and they're a reliable source for Pilgrim Coins that are the main currency in the Wastes.

9 Trueshot Volley Can One Shot Chaos Warriors

Just how Kruber's Grail Blessed Blade can instakill these giant lumbering armored walking tanks in one hit, Kerillian's Trueshot Volley if used right also turns them into a complete joke.

Normally this ability is for countering single units, specials, or groups that corner you since it fires out a volley of seeking arrows, if it's focused solely on a Chaos Warrior they will often instantly drop. So keep one of these handy for when you see one of these giant lumbering brutes stomping towards you.

8 Dryads Thirst Is A Must Have For Melee

Despite Kerillian's affinity for picking things off from afar eventually, you're going to have to wade into the melee once you run out of ammunition or get mobbed by a horde. Staying alive in those situations requires the Trait Dryads Thirst.

This handy Trait rewards you with temporary health for striking multiple enemies in one swing up to a maximum of five. So having something that can cleave through multiple units in one hit can be particularly handy for keeping you going with temporary hit points.

7 You Need Natural Bond

Kerillian is a very squishy character and can't take a lot of hits before dropping so you need to constantly be on the move if you want to survive in Vermintide 2. Unfortunately, you can get easily bogged down in a horde in seconds or batted by an Elite you didn't see.

Natural Bond provides essentially an extra life in those dire moments as any hit that would do enough damage to kill instead heals you to 1hp. Whilst this may not seem like a lot, if timed right it can provide the perfect chance to escape from harm.

6 Trueshot Volley Can Be Chained

Unlocked after hitting level 30, Piercing Shot is a pretty handy Trait as it gives you the chance to refund your ultimate for another round by providing a 100% cooldown if you land a headshot. As mentioned before Kerillian's ability to shoot off a bunch of homing arrows at once can get you out of a number of dicey situations so being able to chain it can make her unstoppable.

Plus if you combine this with the level 25 Trait Ricochet, an ability that makes Kerillian's arrows bounce up to three times and you're only increasing your chances of one of those shots hitting someone right in the face.
