The DualSense From Astro Bot Is Real, Pre-Orders Begin August 9

Summary
- PlayStation has revealed it is turning the living DualSense from Astro Bot into a real-life controller.
- The controller is a replica of the one Astro uses to fly around in the game and will be released on the same day as the game.
- Pre-orders for the Astro Bot DualSense will open on August 9 and it costs $74.99.
The first thing we saw in the debut trailer for Astro Bot, right after the PlayStation mascot is gently woken up by a fennec fox bot, is Astro taking off into space on a DualSense spaceship. If you're anything like me, one of the first thoughts you'd have had at that point is PlayStation better have plans to turn that living DualSense into a real-life controller. Turns out they do, and now a first look, release date, and pre-order details for its Astro Bot DualSense have been revealed.
PlayStation broke the good news via a blog post on Monday morning, the very first look at its newest controller accompanied by Astro sitting on top of it and a few of his friends gathered around. The first look is accompanied by a video of the Bots using the controller to play Astro Bot, working together to use the sticks and the buttons in unison since they're so small. We won't have that obstacle to overcome. All we need to do is pre-order one and then wait for it to be released on September 6, 2024, the same day as Astro Bot launches.

PostsPre-orders for the limited edition Astro Bot DualSense controller will begin at 10 am EST in the US on August 9, 2024. However, Astro fans in the UK and select other European countries will be able to place their pre-orders a little earlier as they will open at 10 am local time on the same day. PlayStation hasn't clarified how many Astro Bot controllers there are to go around, but the limited edition tag does mean there will be a limited number so if you want one, you'll want to be there when pre-orders go live.
The Astro Bot DualSense Is Real
The controller will cost $79.99 which is a lot, but not much more than a regular DualSense. It's also $5 cheaper than the Concord DualSense that was revealed a few days ago. Pre-orders for that one are already open by the way, but limited to PS5 owners in the US. Back to Astro, and the DualSense you'll be able to use to play through Astro Bot is almost identical to the one that appears in the game. It even has the glowing blue eyes on the touchpad, although they appear to be printed on rather than the pad being switched for a screen or set of LEDs. It would need to be quite a bit more than $80 if that were the case, and I'm willing to make that trade.
Not only am I glad to see PlayStation is doing this and putting more behind Astro Bot than just releasing the game and leaving it to do its thing, but the blog post confirms this controller has been in the works for a while. It wasn't a knee-jerk reaction following the positive reaction to Astro Bot's first trailer. PlayStation knows this game can be a big deal and is treating it as such, and I hope I can be one of the lucky few who will be playing Astro Bot on an Astro DualSense come September 6.
