Update: 21:18 29/09/2023 - The Pokemon Company has apologized as every item from the Van Gogh collection has now sold out. It is now "actively working" on coming up with new ways for fans to get "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" promo cards and will share further details at a later date.

Pokemon TCG fans will know that collecting cards isn't exactly simple these days. Most of that is down to scalpers, as any new promotion or release brings swarms of them out of the woodwork to buy stock in bulk due to how popular they are and how rare certain cards can be. It was no exception with a recent collaboration with the Van Gogh museum, as scalpers caused chaos on the first day in which a special 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat' promo card went on sale.

First shared by VGC, the collaboration had been set up to celebrate the museum's 50th anniversary, as a new line of Pokemon x Van Gogh merchandise went on sale. Each item purchased came with a special 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat' promo card, and this is the reason why we're now seeing videos online of people swarming the museum, causing ridiculous scenes and ensuring the Van Gogh museum never interacts with the Pokemon series ever again.

You can find one such video embedded down below, in which you can see a horde of scalpers swarming what appears to be the museum's front desk to get their hands on any piece of merchandise that will net them at 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat'. It's possible that some of these individuals could just be avid Van Gogh fans with a fondness for Pokemon, but something tells me the majority aren't there to see some art.

It's also pretty clear that these people are scalpers when you head on over to Ebay. Already you can find several listings for the 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat' promo card, with one listing currently at £470.00 with 56 bids at the time of writing. It's not exactly the most expensive Pokemon card that you'll find out there, but it's clear that scalpers have been buying up as much stock as they can to flog for close to £500 a pop.

What makes things even worse is that the 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat' promo card seems to be widely available, as any purchase of the Van Gogh x Pokemon merchandise online also comes with a card. While this card may only be available for a limited time, with the promo running all the way up until January 7, it's not like it's ridiculously hard to get a hold of right now or for the next few months. The rarity could be something to do with them being the first on the market, but there are better things to spend your money on at that point.
