Payday 3 was finally revealed earlier this year, a game that's been in development for a pretty long time and has suffered a number of setbacks during that time. Despite all of that, the game looks pretty promising and officially launches on September 21 next month. To get us all nice and hyped for the occasion, developer Starbreeze Studios gave us a brand new gameplay trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

The trailer itself showcased what appears to be a new mission from the game, as a team of four infiltrate a storage yard to retrieve some high security cooling containers. The interesting thing about the mission is that it appears to be timed, as the key itme in question degrades over time. There were a couple of features shown off, such as a throwing knife and some ziplines the team uses to make progress. Of course, the stealthy approach then goes wrong and we see some more of the fast-paced, chaotic combat that all you Payday fans out there know and love.

Given that Payday 3 is just under a month away from release, we actually knew quite a bit about the title before today's trailer. We know that the game will allow you to take hostages and negotiate with the police when your stealthy approach inevitably goes belly up, and that it will be available to play on Xbox Game Pass on the day of release. Those two things combined that will be music to the ears of all of you hoping to jump into a heist or two next month.

However, there's one downside to Payday 3, and that's the fact that it requires an always online internet connection, even if you want to play the game by yourself. Just like with previous titles that forced players to have an always online connection, like Redfall and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, fans weren't too pleased about the requirement, and even began canceling their pre-orders in protest. There's stil time for Starbreeze to reverse the decision, though it's unlikely considering we heard nothing during today's announcement.

There were other big announcements made during Opening Night Live as well, one of which was the surprise reveal of Little Nightmares 3 which is set to release at some point in 2024. We also got an in-depth look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, a release date and roster reveal for Tekken 8, the reveal of Shao Khan and Sindel in Mortal Kombat 1 with some gruesome gameplay to go with it, and a new release date for Sonic Superstars.
