How To Recognize Damaged Frigates
In order to locate the damaged ship, you have two options:
Method 1
Damaged frigates are indicated by a red icon. You'll also be contacted by that frigate's captain explaining their damaged status. Land on the frigate to review the damage report and determine which components you need to repair. If possible, try to familiarize yourself with the general frigate layout before embarking on this mission.
You may need to fly close to the damaged frigate in order for the red icon to appear on your HUD. Luckily, your fleet typically stays pretty close to your freighter.
Method 2
You can also use the "Manage Frigates" menu on your Freighter to view the damaged frigates you have in your fleet. This also shows you where the damaged frigate is in relation to your other ships, but you have to remember that visual image to find it with your ship.

How To Repair Damaged Frigates
As with other damaged items in No Man's Sky, you'll need specific resources to fix your frigate. Having a stash of crafting materials is recommended, but having a healthy stock of these comes particularly in handy if you want to repair frigates.
You'll need these elements to repair the frigate:
Gold
Ferrite Dust
Oxygen
Tritium
Silver
Platinum
Pure Ferrite
Fuel (Made of Tritium and Di-Hydrogen.)
Players will need to land on the frigate and walk to each damaged component in order to repair it. Finding the damaged components may require going down ladders and up corridors.
Damaged components will have a distinctive sound, so just follow the clanging to find whatever's broken on your frigate.
