After you successfully retrieve Safi's camera from Moses' office, Alderman pulls you aside and asks if you'll help by providing him with information on whoever took Safi's camera and their whereabouts. Should you agree to help him out, essentially betraying Moses, or stand your ground and refuse his request? We'll help you make your decision here by providing every possible consequence that could come from either option.

What Happens If You Agree To Help Alderman?

If you agree to help, he gives you his business card, and thanks you for your help. However, Moses overhears you agreeing to help him. Later, when you and Moses are about to look at Safi's photos, the conversation between Max and Moses is strained.

You can try to tell Moses that either Alderman gave you no choice or that you'll never actually help him, but it doesn't seem to matter.

When you find the photo of Max shooting Safi, Moses says that you sold him out to Alderman to cover for yourself and he storms out.

Fortunately, that's the extent of the consequences for this choice. After Moses learns about your powers, and then what happens to Alderman at the beginning of Chapter 3, he seems to forgive Max.

What Happens If You Refuse To Help Alderman?

If you refuse to help Alderman, he says he hopes you don't actually know anything, and that withholding information could get you in trouble.

During the conversation later with Moses, after Max asks him if he’s "okay okay" and he says no, you can ask him one of these two questions:

  • Anything I can do?
  • Want to talk about it?

To the first he says “you’ve already done plenty”, to the other he opens up about how he’s feeling, and he says he appreciates you standing up to Alderman.

When he sees the photo of Max holding the gun, it doesn’t matter what you say to Moses, he will leave upset and tell you to stay away from him, just as he would've done if you agreed to help Alderman.

Ultimately, the choice is up to you. However, we preferred refusing Alderman because Moses is such a sweet character, betraying him, even for the sake of writing this guide, felt horrible.
