While there are some rivers you can easily swim across, you’ll eventually reach the high open seas. There might also be various islands you want to reach, but you’ll run out of stamina if you try to swim. Building a boat will help you reach new islands and land masses, and here's how to put one together.

How To Get Materials For A Boat

There isn't an automated build for boats in Lego Fortnite, so you'll need to arrange items together to make your own. Once you get far enough to survive the heat of the Dry Valley, you'll start getting materials you'll need to build a boat.

In the Dry Valley, you'll need to chop down cactuses to get Flexwood and defeat roving skeletons to get Blast Powder. With these two materials, you'll be able to craft new items in your 'Toys' build menu.

The most important item, and the basis for your boat, will then bethe Dynamic Foundation.

Here are the items you can use to make a boat:

Item

Crafting Materials

Dynamic Foundation

  • Flexwood x4

Small Thruster

  • Wooden Rod x1
  • Blast Powder x1
  • Torch x1

Large Thruster

  • Wooden Rod x3
  • Blast Powder x2
  • Torch x1

Activation Switch

  • Wood x1
  • Blast Powder x1

How To Craft A Boat

Since you will be building a boat to cross open areas of water, head to an area of the beach that you want to use as your launching point.

It will be easier to build your makeshift boat on a flat beach, but you can also build it in the water if you need to. The Dynamic Foundation will float.

Putting together a useable boat is fairly simple. You will need to:

  • Build a Dynamic Foundation.
  • Attach a Small or Large Thruster to the back of the Dynamic Foundation.
  • Attach an Activation Switch on top of the Dynamic Foundation.

Since the Dynamic Foundation floats, switching on the Activation Switch will ignite the Thruster attached to it, and propel you across the water. Sometimes theThrusters will automatically power off, but you can just switch on the Activation Switch again to get going.

Using Large Thrusters will give your boat more speed, so you'll cover distances quicker.

While you can arrange a workaround for steering like you could with building a car, there's another way to change where you're going in your boat. It's not perfect, but it can quickly be done once you get the hang of it.

If you ever need to alter your direction, break off one of your Thrusters. You can then hop in the water to gather its crafting materials, and then build a new Thruster while floating in the water yourself.

How much you turn is determined by your Thruster placement on the Dynamic Foundation. If it is centered, you will move straight forward. If a Thruster is off-center to one side, you'll turn in the opposite direction due to the force.

Sticking two Dynamic Foundations side-by-side for your boat is a good way to get more stability in the water, too. It allows you to build more on top of the boat. You can decorate it if you want, or attach things like chests if you want to transport materials with you.
