Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance - How To Level Up Fast

Grinding it out at least a little bit has always been crucial to maintaining the upper hand in Shin Megami Tensei 5, itself a part of one of the harder ongoing RPG series around. With Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, ever tougher battles await. Now, the level cap has increased to 150 (provided you meet the parameters to unlock the added 51).

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is an Atlus RPG, so you know you're in for the long haul. But how long is that haul?
PostsEven if you don't plan to bring the Nahobino to such lofty heights, you will want to know how best to effectively elevate his level to suit Vengeance's sprawling environments and quick-thinking foes. Here's how to level up... fast!
Battle Mitama
So, yeah, even in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, you'll... still need to purchase the Mitama DLC if you want to bump into these rare enemies on a swift basis. We kind of get it, though? Mostly? Having Mitama around every corner lowers the game's overall difficulty substantially.
Some will lead you to massive amounts of money. Others will net you relatively quick gobs of Glory. Kushi Mitama drop items that level up your demons, but sometimes they'll drop Gospels instead. Gospels increase the Nahobino's level by one, and if you're fighting enough of these things, this sure does add up.
Make sure you have a healthy supply of Spyglasses and elemental damage-dealing items before you go near any Mitamas. They're all weak to a random element and quick to flee the fight. You want a way to deduce that weakness immediately and follow up with a guaranteed hit.
If you don't want to shell out for the Mitama DLC, don't fret. You'll still run into Mitama occasionally, and in our playthroughs, they popped up around every 20 minutes or so while we were exploring SMT5: Vengeance's regions.
Track Down Every Side Quest
Main quests will always fork over massive amounts of experience points, but side quests are worth a mighty bit of EXP as well. Not quite to the same degree, but when there are well over a dozen side quests per region, you're going to level up a few times from their rewards alone, we promise.
Plus, you're performing tasks that will often contribute to the grind while you're tackling the objectives. Sometimes, you'll face a powerful foethat will inevitably cough up lots of EXP upon its defeat.
Oh, and do be sure to do the formerly-DLC side quests as soon as you're strong enough to do so. Goodness gracious, they're great for leveling.

PostsStock Up On Attract Pipes
Attract Pipes are worth having around when you're feeling frisky enough to mow down tons of enemies for EXP. A new feature in Vengeance is the Consecutive Battles mechanic, which does exactly as it says on the tin.
Well, OK. There's a bit more to it. Consecutive Battles reward you with modifiers that increase EXP, and by our count, you can get up to five back-to-back rounds in a given encounter. The modifier increases every time, too.
As a result, you're not only getting the EXP from a bunch of fights at once, which is in and of itself kind of considerable. You're getting a percentage uptick along the way.
Attract Pipes aren't necessary in order to trigger Consecutive Battles. Indeed, you'll get into Consecutive Battles sometimes naturally while fighting enemies, especially if foes are close together on the map. But they'll improve your odds substantially, so by all means, use 'em.
Know When To Move On
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance utilizes a scaled approach to EXP gain. If you're fighting an enemy that's higher than a party member's level, you gain more. Conversely, defeating something that's lower-leveled nets less; unfortunately, this penalty stacks pretty noticeably within just a handful of levels behind you.
On the flip side, yeah, it's stellar stuff if a demon is higher than the Nahobino's level but still manageable. Nevertheless, it's important to pay attention to post-battle screens so that you can keep tabs on when you've hit what is, more or less, a stopping point for real growth.
