Wild Kingdom Hearts 4 Theory About Sora Is Heating Up

Kingdom Hearts fans are theorising that Sora was actually from Quadratum, the setting of Kingdom Hearts 4, all along, and Nomura’s own words might even support that.

As you’d expect from a series that took the time to explain why Mickey Mouse doesn’t have a shirt on in the first game’s ending, Kingdom Hearts’ long-running story is one that practically begs fans to pick it apart and theory craft. That’s especially true for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4, which is kicking off a whole new saga after KH3.

There’s never been quite as much uncertainty surrounding a Kingdom Hearts game’s plot as there is for KH4, which has made it even more of a haven for theorising. I’m very glad about that, because there’s a popular new theory gaining some traction that actually makes a silly amount of sense considering the Nomura of it all.

Kingdom Hearts Intros Are Making Fans Think Sora Is Actually From Quadratum

Nomura Even Admitted He’s Had Quadratum In Mind Since KH1

Ever since the introduction of unreality and Quadratum in Kingdom Hearts 3, some fans have suggested that some characters could be more tied to it than we realised. One such theory is that Sora is actually from Quadratum, which I’ve been seeing for some time now but never with as much detail as from Twitter user ZZ_AFRET_ZZ.

In the post that’s started making the rounds, ZZ_AFRET_ZZ points out that Sora has been questioning whether his world is real since his very first lines in Kingdom Hearts about whether any of this is "for real or not". It starts to track a bit more if you consider Sora is actually from Quadratum, the realm of unreality, instead of the world of Kingdom Hearts.

Yozora, who is also from Quadratum, also echoes those words back to Sora in the ending for Remind, making it even more of a connection.

Kingdom Hearts 3’s opening also has Sora saying that his fate will return him home after they "cut him loose" from all he knows, which could be taken as Destiny Islands, but also makes sense if he’s actually on about Quadratum. Dream Drop Distance’s intro even has Sora being dropped into Destiny Islands alongside Riku and Kairi, which some are now taking as a retroactive tease.

This might seem like one big leap, but Nomura’s own words on the matter give the theory just enough to seem real. For starters, Nomura has always said Sora is a “normal” boy and not the chosen one, which becomes even truer if he’s actually from a world like Quadratum that is meant to resemble the real world.

The real smoking gun of the theory that pushed me into thinking it might just be true is that Nomura actually confirmed that he's had the idea for unreality and Quadratum since the very first game. I have no clue why Nomura would think of such a long-reaching goal if it didn't have to do with the origins of Sora, so I'm basically fully on board.
