Yamasuso Lodging, one of the final missions of the game, is one such mission. While the path for Yoshiro is literally straightforward, the same is not true for the Seethe. They have greater control over this map, but this guide will have you turning their entryways into chokepoints in short order.

Recommended Set-Up For Soh And The Villagers

Villager Set-Up

There are a total of eight Villagers to be found across both sections of Yamasuso Lodging, though thankfully none are hidden in areas that are all too difficult to reach so you will naturally encounter them as you search for the various Defilements.

Once you've gathered them all up, these would be our recommended Roles for all of the Villagers:

  • One Woodcutter, one Spearman, and one Sumo Wrestler for enemies that come into melee range.
  • One Archer, one Marksman, and one Cannoneer to handle enemies at range.
  • One Shaman to keep them all healed up, and one Sorcerer as backup for their powerful attack.

One of the optional objectives in this mission is to not assign any Villager the Ascetic Role. Though it would be very helpful, you'll want to avoid it this time around.

Yamasuso Lodging is quite straightforward for Yoshiro and the Villagers, though filled with secret passages for the enemies. As such, it's best to keep your Villagers all relatively close together rather than spaced out in case they get overwhelmed by enemies.

This is especially true in the second section when the Seethe can create new entryways for themselves. Keeping your Villagers by Yoshiro is the safest bet in this mission.

Soh Set-Up

In Yamasuso Lodging, Soh will be the adventurous one. While the Villagers will remain close to Yoshiro, Soh will have the freedom to track enemies along the back alleys that the Villagers can't so easily track. As such, you'll be building them to maximise damage and keep the enemies away from Yoshiro.

Here are our recommendations on how to best keep Yoshiro safe and help you achieve those optional objectives:

Item

Name

Description

Tsuba Guard 1

Kochin's Ward

Creates a barrier around Soh that stops enemy attacks and damages those that touch it.

Tsuba Guard 2

Genbu's Might

This creates a highly damaging attack around Soh that ripples outwards for a second strike, dealing high Resist Gauge Depletion.

Tsuba Guard 3

Kijin's Specter

Soh summons a clone of themselves that replicates all of their actions in combat.

Mazo Talisman 1

Bodhisattva

Moderately raises Soh's attack power.

Mazo Talisman 2

Cursed Hound

Reduces the time needed for Soh to perform Charged Dance Attacks.

Mazo Talisman 3

Orochi

Reduces the number of Crystals needed to change Roles on Villagers by 15.

Mazo Talisman 4

Esteemed Craftsman

The Carpenter will perform repairs much faster than usual.

Dance Style

Oka Dance

Gives Soh more powerful but less mobile attacks.

Oka Dance Upgrade

Oka Form 3

Allows the Dance Attack after the second Regular Attack to be charged for higher damage and Resist Gauge depletion.

Combat Upgrade

Punishing Strike

Allows Soh to perform a powerful attack on any enemy that has a depleted Resist Gauge.

Archery Upgrade

Spider Shot

Fires an arrow that deals both high damage and Resist Gauge depletion.

The Villagers will be more focused on utility and taking down the smaller enemies that slip past Soh, so it's better to prioritise Soh's own attack power. Cursed Hound is an essential aspect to this as it will let Soh unleash their most powerful attacks even faster.

Ideally, having all of the Charged Dance Attacks unlocked is ideal, but Oka Form 3 is one of the most important for how fast it can be pulled off relative to its strength. Depleting the Resist Gauge is essential for quickly taking down larger enemies, and Charged Dance Attacks will shred through it.

One of the optional objectives is to defeat 15 Seethe using Punishing Strike, so depleting the Resist Gauge is paramount. The further along the combo you perform the Charged Dance Attack, the more of the Resist Gauge will be drained. This awards the Taion's Lightning Tsuba Guard.

One of the major enemies you will face in this level is Enenra, who is fully armoured from the front. It can be hard to deplete their Resist Gauge, but Genbu's Might will shred through it no matter what direction it hits them from, making it a valuable tool in taking them down.

Orochi is helpful in reducing the amount of Crystals you end up spending in this mission, though if you feel confident in your spending feel free to swap it out for another Mazo Talisman of your choosing like Sacred Tamagushi.

Where To Find Every Defilement In Yamasuso Lodging's First Section

In Yamasuso Lodging, both sections contain eight Defilements each for Soh to purge, making up a total of 16 Defilements in total. We've split these sections into two separate entries for the ease of your discovery.

Defilement 1-2

Close

These two Defilements can be found just north of the entrance. The first will be to the building on the right, while the second will be by the back of the house to the right above the steps further north.

Defilement 3

Close

This Defilement is found just before the second Defilement. While weaving behind the house of the second Defilement, you will find this one just by the stairs leading towards the smaller corrupted Torii gate.

Defilement 4

Close

This Defilement is found right in the northwest corner of the map, nestled between two buildings right at the edge of the map.

Defilement 5

Close

This Defilement is found just south of the entrance, at the corner of a building beside a broken contraption by the alley.

Defilement 6-7

Close

These two Defilements are found to the south of the centre of the map. The first is found at the corner of a building, while the second is directly across from it by the edge of another ruined building.

Defilement 8

Close

This Defilement is found directly south of the corrupted Torii gate by a wooden building with a red bench.

Return to the shrine in this section of the map once all the Defilements have been purged to be granted the Tsurigane Oni Mazo Talisman as a reward.

Where To Find Every Defilement In Yamasuso Lodging's Second Section

The eight Defilements in the second section of Yamasuso Lodging are a tad more difficult to acquire than those in the first section as many of them are hidden in the northern and southern sections of the map which are only opened by enemies. As such, you'll need to survive at least one night before you can purge them all.

Defilement 1

Close

This Defilement is found along the central thoroughfare and is the only one you can find before the first night falls. It is found at the midway point of the map by a storefront.

Defilement 2

Close

This Defilement is found in the southern section of the map just beside one of the smaller corrupted Torii gates. It is found at the corner of the steps leading up to the Torii gate by a wooden building.

Defilement 3

Close

This Defilement is also found beside the smaller corrupted Torii gate in the south of the map, on the eastern side. It is found by the edge of the map tucked into the corner of a secluded building.

Defilement 4-5

Close

These two Defilements are found in the northern section of the map beside the smaller corrupted Torii gate. The first is found just across the steps leading to the Torii gate, while the second is found behind the building by the steps.

Defilement 6-8

Close

These three Defilements are all nestled quite closely together in the northern section of the map.

  • The first is found just west of the smaller corrupted Torii gate at the corner of a building.
  • The second is found directly across from the previous Defilement by a building with a thatch roof before going down the slope.
  • The third can be found slightly south of the second Defilement down the slope and at the corner of a building leading back to the main thoroughfare.

Once all eight Defilements have been purged, you may journey to this section's shrine to get the Nyorai Mazo Talisman.

Nyorai is a direct upgrade of the Bodhisattva Mazo Talisman, so feel free to equip it immediately.

Tips For Completing Yamasuso Lodging

General Tips

Like all missions in the game, you never want Yoshiro or the Carpenter to be idle. For the former, you'll want to always start carving the Spirit Path immediately, at least enough for her to move while you complete other tasks. For the latter, they should always be repairing, especially if you have the Esteemed Craftsman Mazo Talisman equipped.

The Sorcerer isn't capable of defending themselves very well, though they also don't need to be in range of enemies for their ability to charge. Keep them close to Yoshiro so they're away from harm, and use their ability whenever you're feeling too overwhelmed as it will severely damage every enemy in the map.

Sorcerers charge their ability even faster with more Sorcerers, though it doesn't get any more powerful than it already is.

First Section Tips

The first section is relatively straightforward. Enemies will appear from the main Torii gate and the smaller ones to the north and south along the many alleys. Keep your Villagers near Yoshiro along the main thoroughfare while Soh tries to weaken enemies before they can make it too close to Yoshiro.

One of the optional objectives for this mission is to defeat 20 Seethe with attacks from other Seethe. Bundling up enemies around a Gakinyudo or Hozukime with a Sumo is the easiest way of achieving this

Second Section Tips

It can be tempting to try to track down enemies as soon as they appear, especially the larger Seethe. In the second section, however, it's to your advantage to let them break open more passageways first. This will give them more entryways while also letting Soh more easily reach the Torii gate they spawn from.
