The Steam Deck is the go-to gaming console for many, but it can have a few problems sometimes. And one such issue is that it stops turning on, no matter how many times you press or hold the power button.
This issue usually occurs if the battery is dead, the power button is stuck, if there’s a software glitch, or the hardware is damaged. However, it isn’t something that cannot be fixed. Below, I’ll highlight five fixes that will help you turn your Steam Deck on!
Methods To Fix Steam Deck Not Turning On
There are multiple methods to fix this issue. However, not all of them might work for everyone. For instance, if solution 1 works for person A, then it isn’t necessary that it’ll work for person B as well. Having said that, another solution might work for person B, so no need to worry! All the working solutions are explained below:
Check the power button
Make sure the power button isn’t damaged or stuck somewhere. If you don’t hear a light click sound while pressing it, it means there’s an issue. In this situation, get it checked by a local console store, or contact Valve for the purpose.
Plug in the charger
More often than not, the Deck fails to turn on if the battery is completely drained. So, the best way to check if that’s really the issue is by plugging in the charger. If the deck starts charging, then let it charge for a few minutes and try turning it on afterward.
Having said that, if the charger doesn’t charge the Steam Deck, then the charger might be the one that is malfunctioning. Try a different one and see if it charges or not. You can check out our picks for the best Steam Deck chargers as well!
If the problem persists, move on to the next methods.
Force restart the Steam Deck
Another solution is to force restart the deck by holding the Power button on the top for 5 seconds. Now release the button and hold it again for 15 seconds. If the Deck restarts, then you’re good to go. But if that doesn’t work, the next option is to do a hard reboot of the device.
Perform a hard reboot
To hard reboot the Steam Deck, hold the power button along with the volume up button for 10–12 seconds. This will force the Deck to go in Recovery mode and you’ll see the BIOS menu. Wait for a few seconds, and it’ll hopefully help the device turn on.
Get it repaired
If nothing else works, you can get your Steam Deck checked at a store that repairs electronic devices or consoles. Moreover, you can contact Valve and let them know about the issue. They will hopefully get it fixed as soon as possible.
