The Helldivers 2 community is calling on developer Arrowhead to buff the anti-vehicle weapons in a bid to make higher difficulties fairer, stressing that they don't want to see viable choices like the railgun get nerfed.

"I've played my share of level nine dives," ProfessionalAd2203 posted, garnering over 2,000 upvotes at the time of writing. "The railgun is frankly the only weapon in the game that makes playing at higher [difficulties] bearable, and barely so if I might add. The game spams you with so many heavies at higher difficulties in some cases it's just impossible to keep up.

Just please, before nerfing the only reliable option we have against heavy spam, consider bringing the other weapons up to scratch, setup weapons should perform way better than they do now.

"Part of the reason is that the anti-vehicle options in this game are unreliable or just flat out bad compared to Helldivers 1."

In particular, players are calling out the recoilless rifle for doing too little damage and the spear launcher for being "buggy", with its lock on taking too long. One fan went as far as to say that "The spear is truly unusable" since it only has four shots and takes an entire supply pod to re-arm.

Another weapon coming under scrutiny is the autocannon, "A big gun like that and it's only good for medium? Might as well keep using the anti-material rifle. Only reason AC is 'better' is because you can close bug holes with it with a direct shot."

"It's too slow to traverse [with] and will often just hit the top of the butt and ricochet off with how much they wiggle," one player replied. "It's kinda pointless when I can just take the railgun."

I dream for the day the anti-material rifle [is] good.

There's also the expendable anti-tank, a single-use rocket launcher that destroys armour, which some fans have called out for feeling far less impactful than in the first game. "If I remember correctly in HD1, [it] would take out chargers in the sweet spot with one hit," ataluko commented. "Now, it kind of feels useless to take out on the field."

While the railgun is highlighted as one of the more viable anti-vehicle weapons, it isn't without its problems.

Many are unhappy with its damage and ammo capacity; "While it can penetrate heavy armour, its base damage is relatively low," ProfessionalAd2203 said. "Part of the reason why the railgun is so good against chargers is due to its ability to strip their heavy armour and then finish them off with your primary; against high HP targets like the Bile Titan or Automan Tank it performs incredibly poorly."

Wherever you land, it's clear that the community are itching for some balance tweaks.
