By far the most successful release from Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 is a third-person co-op shooter that’s taken the Indie scene by absolute storm since it came out. A follow up to the moderately successful original game, the sequel took what made its predecessor great and enhanced it further.

What we’re presented with is squad based mechanics on a brutal battlefield in a live service-esque setting. All controlled by an infamous man named Joel who changes the wider galactic conflict in twisted and creative ways to keep the Community coming back again and again. First and foremost Helldivers 2 has generally gotten positive and very favorable reviews across the board. Despite a few hiccups at launch and some annoying bugs that are thankfully being squashed, the game is still highly recommended on multiple fronts.

For starters, our own team took a look at the game and our Video Content Lead Sam Hallahan came away with nothing but good things to say about the game in his review of Helldivers 2. Praising its difficulty and unexpected depth, as well as its chaotic gameplay and unique progression system.

“There’s nothing like saluting your fellow comrades right before being torn apart by giant bugs”.

But it’s not just us, others have been very complimentative about the game.

For example, over on Steam, the PC reviews are all “Very Positive” and that’s from a pool of over 250,000 recommendations at the time of writing. Likewise over on Metacritic the games become somewhat of an Indie Darling, netting itself a score of 82 and a “Generally Favorable” rating from critics.

Whilst for your average user on both consoles and PC gave Helldivers 2 a top tier “8.3” and another “Generally Favorable” rating for the game. So all around, from platform to platform, Helldivers 2 is absolutely adored.

How Long Does It Take To Beat Helldivers 2

When you sit down and take all of Helldivers 2 in you’ll realize that there’s quite a big game sitting in front of you. Though it’s technically a live service-styled game with an ever-evolving conflict, there is a “finale” to the game of sorts.

In this case you could say that hitting the level cap and getting everything in the Warbonds is the equivalent to finishing the game, since there technically isn’t an “Ending” to Helldivers 2. According to How Long To Beat, Helldivers 2 is going to take you a whopping 49 hours to finish. Even though it’s functionally infinite.

For example, the war itself is going to go on for as long as the game runs. Plus, each mission takes around 30 minutes or so to clear and you’re averaging around one or at least half a level depending on the difficulty setting.

So it’s going to take you quite a while to hit that endgame.

Plus, with the constant addition of new content as the war goes on you’ll have plenty of reasons to pop back into the fight. So for what you’re paying, you’re getting a ridiculous amount of value for your cash.

The amount of time you spend in the game honestly depends on how much you personally enjoy third-person shooters and Helldiver 2’s gameplay loop.

What Does It Cost?

To continue that train of thought, when it comes to value for money, you’re really getting a lot of bang for your buck. Helldivers is around the medium end for videogame price, in the US it’s selling for 40 Dollars, whilst in the UK it’s about 35 British Pounds. Whilst for Europe you’ll need to set aside about 39 Euros.

But it’s honestly worth it when you consider what you’re getting for that middle-of-the-road asking price. Especially if you’re looking for something to justify a recent next-gen console purchase or pricey PC upgrade.

For example, the Battlepass doesn’t require real money, there are no aggressive microtransactions, the game is constantly evolving with new missions and more, plus there’s someone actively controlling the galactic conflict at all times ensuring that the game is always at its best

What Players Are Saying

For those still not sold it’s worth taking the proverbial dipstick to the Gaming Community to gauge what others think about the game. The results of which are, of course, nothing but positive as Helldivers 2 seems to be shaking up to be the most popular multiplayer game of the year.

Helldivers 2 is great even if you just match with strangers, but it really shines when you play with friends. Teamwork, planning, and coordination are all essential, but they don't take away from the thrill of blasting bugs. Best of all, the ongoing Galactic War makes you part of a global story with contributions from every player in the world.

So if you’re still curious about jumping onboard the Helldivers 2 train hopefully this has persuaded you to give it a go. Or at least dip a toe in to see why everyone is talking and memeing about this game so much.
