While there are a few different armies to play as, you may begin to wonder which of them stands above the rest. Each of them can easily win a match, but not each of them is created equally, especially where weapons and vehicles are concerned. Here's how each of the factions in Hell Let Loose rank against each other.

4 British Army

While they are a more recent entry to the game, the British Army does fall short of the standard the other armies set at the start of Hell Let Loose. One of the teams will end up playing as the British Army in either the Driel in the Netherlands or El Alamein in Africa, both against the Wehrmacht, of course.

The Bren Gun is the machinegunner's main weapon for the British Army, it has some impressive damage output and accuracy which makes for a solid choice when you get to know it. Unfortunately though, the odd sights marr the accuracy and range of the weapon, plus there is the smaller magazine size compared to machineguns of other armies.

Other weapons in the British Army's roster have similar issues, as the Sten Gun is a solid room clearing weapon of an SMG, the maps that you play in as the British mean you rarely get to see the weapon at it's most optimal range. The main rifle is a solid workhorse that keeps it in the same range as other armies. The armored elements as well are in the same threshhold as the other armies, but don't feel as notable as a Sherman or Panther.

All in all, each of the main weapons of the British army has some drawbacks, especially when compared to the wehrmacht's weapons as the only other army they play against. It's not impossible to do well as the British; it just takes some extra time to get used to their weaponry.

3 Red Army

The Red Army has some pros that elevate it above being the worst army in the game, but it has some quirks that hold it back from being the most impressive army you can play as well. There are two weapons most players will end up choosing over the rest of the Red Army's arsenal.

The main weapon for most of the rifle-based classes will be the Mosin Nagant. It's a solid rifle with some impressive range and stopping power that is only outclassed by the American M1. This makes it invaluable for the often long-ranged focused Russian maps.

The other weapon you'll likely find yourself focusing on is one of the versions of the PPSH submachine gun. While either one is a fine choice for short to medium-range encounters, the one with the assault's version with the drum mag is definitely the standout. The DP-27 is an odd machinegun with its plate-like magazine, but it does offer a solid amount of ammo to use to suppress your enemies.

Another of the standouts of the Red Army is the PTRS-41, their main anti-tank weapon. Instead of a rocket launcher, this is a heavy-duty sniper rifle that can punch holes in some of the thickest german armor, and at a pretty far range too. Many of the army members also have access to the Molotov cocktail as a special grenade type for added benefit.

The proper use of Molotovs can be great for cutting off routes when defending on a map, especially when there are multiple players using them in coordination.

All of these weapons add up to an arsenal that shouldn't be ignored, and after a little bit of time, you'll definitely have your favorites you can specialize in. The Red Army as a whole though, does miss out on some of the additional unlocks that make some armies more diverse at different engagements or ranges.

2 Wehrmacht

The only army in the game so far that falls into the axis powers. The Wehrmacht, or German Army, has some impressive weaponry that makes it a imposing fighting force, which only makes sense since no matter what map you are playing in, you'll either be playing as them or against them.

The main rifle, the Kar98, is a fair weapon with a normal range and good damage output. It's a great weapon to help you get to know the game's combat with for its all around good abilities. As well, the MP40 is the go-to submachine gun for the army. It's great for close encounters and a steady burst can take out or at least suppress enemies at medium range.

The anti-tank panzershreck is a heavy-hitting rocket launcher, but it is large and easily spotted by the enemy. The long stick grenades that most classes carry is another great explosive device with an impressive thrown distance. The heavy-hitter for the Wehrmacht is the MG-42. It shoots incredibly fast and the large drum magazines means you won't be reloading very often.

Remember, being a machinegunner is just as much about suppressing the enemy as it is getting kills. It can be an imposing force just to shoot an MG-42 in the direction of an enemy advancement.

Unlockable weapons like the flamethrower, STG 44, and Gewehr 43 round out an arsenal that makes for a formidable army to either be a part of or fight against in the varied maps of Hell Let Loose.

1 U.S. Army

In Hell Let Loose, while each army has the ability to win a match with relative ease, it can help to look at the weapons and armor they each have; and when looking at the U.S. Army's weaponry, they definitely stand out above the rest.

Each of the various classes you can play as in the U.S. faction has a weapon that makes it easy to get a handle on. The base rifle for the army is the M1 Garand which has amazing stopping power, at the cost of some pretty severe recoil, but that just takes a little getting used to.

The Thompson submachinegun is not only movie famous, but also great for clearing rooms and alleyways. Even the 1911 pistol has amazing damage output, if a little wiley to aim from time to time. There's also the loud and destructive pair of the M1919 and BAR rifle that means midrange encounters are way too easy for those playing as Americans.

The BAR has one fire mode, but it can easily be used as a single-fire rifle for medium range or as a fully-auto machine gun, as long as you keep in mind the small magazine.

Completing the arsenal is the Sherman tank. It has impressive maneuverability without sacrificing much armor or damage, as well as various unlockable weapons. Notably, the M1A1 carbine, which is great for fast-moving scouts, and the Trench Gun, which is devastating at short to medium ranges. All in all, you will surely find a class and weapon you excel at when playing as the U.S. Army.
