Imagine a village called Luna Nova, where you are appointed as the Warden with the goal of reaping the harvest. This seems peaceful, but Harvest Hunt is far from it. The frightening entity known as the Devourer, which resides in the village, stands as a significant obstacle to your goal. Its aim is to destroy both the harvest and you.

Since the game is of the Roguelike genre, both your abilities and those of the Devourer will change with each playthrough. So, can you successfully complete the harvest under these conditions? Regardless of the outcome, reading these beginner tips will be to your advantage.

Make Silent Movement A Habit

In Harvest Hunt, every step and direction you take requires careful consideration. Otherwise, you’ll attract the attention of the Devourer and its fiends, putting yourself in a difficult situation and potentially ending the night unsuccessfully.

To avoid attracting their attention, it’s crucial to move silently. What you step on and how you move will determine whether you draw the Devourer’s attention.

Avoid stepping on noisy surfaces like wooden bridges and bone remnants. Examine the ground and plan your path carefully.

Lastly, remember that running always makes noise. If the Devourer or Sound Fiends are nearby, only run if you are sure you can escape. If not, crouching and hiding is a much better option.

Use Bells To Your Advantage

You’ll find some bells at various landmarks. When you ring a bell, the Devourer will come to the spot where you rang it.

While this might sound disadvantageous, it actually isn’t. Normally, if your Vigor (health) is high and you have found an effective weapon, and your goal is to banish the Devourer, you would need to seek it out.

By ringing the bell, you can draw the Devourer’s attention to that area, then hide and ambush it with unexpected damage. This way, you can obtain Devourer Fragments.

If you decide to search for the Devourer without ringing the bell, you might encounter unexpected situations.

Fiends might detect your location, or you might take unnecessary damage if the cornfields or water are poisoned. Worst of all, the Devourer might corner you, so it may result in an unsuccessful night.

Given all these potential scenarios, it’s more beneficial to call the Devourer after making preparations instead of searching for it.

Remember, Your Most Effective Weapon Is Your Mask

If you're not using the mask enough, you're making a mistake, so you should make it a habit as soon as possible. By using the mask, you can spot tools or other useful things from a distance that you wouldn't normally see.

Even if your vision is impaired due to insufficient use of your lantern, you can still rely on your mask, as it will continue to function effectively.

The most important things you can find with the mask are tools. If your goal is to banish the Devourer and you're looking for a weapon like a pitchfork or a hatchet, wandering around randomly will waste your time. Instead, you can quickly locate them by using the mask.

Additionally, the mask can help you see Entry Points. If you think you've collected enough Ambrosia and prefer to escape rather than risk an unsuccessful night dealing with the Devourer, the mask will allow you to see the Entry Points, and you can move accordingly.

Lastly, you can also see the Devourer Fragments dropped by the Devourer when you damage it, as they will glow green.

After collecting these fragments, remember that the location of the Effigy you need to reach will also glow green when you use the mask.

If you forget to pick up a dropped Devourer Fragment, you can summon it at the Effigy by sacrificing a certain amount of your Vigor.

Don't Forget To Retrieve What You've Dropped

Encountering the Devourer and avoiding its attacks is an inevitable scenario. If it's your first few nights, you might be making a common mistake. Your weapons don't disappear after the Devourer damages you. After the attack, quickly put on your mask, and don't forget to retrieve your dropped weapons nearby.

The same applies to Devourer Fragments. If you were attacked while carrying them, don't forget to pick them up from the ground again.

Act According To Your Strategy

There will inevitably be situations where you need to move randomly during the night. However, having a strategy in mind before the night begins will be beneficial. Or, after experiencing an event that changes your strategy, you should adapt to the situation and make necessary adjustments to your strategy.

In this regard, the character you're playing, the mutation of the Devourer, and the other cards you draw are determinative.

For example, drawing a card may result in no Rations available to collect that night. Therefore, if your Vigor is low, you won't be able to heal, putting yourself in a risky situation.

Also, with a dangerous combination, both the Devourer and the environment could become very perilous. In this case, the tools you acquire by sacrificing Vigor should be more defensive, and you should gather as much Ambrosia as possible and escape as soon as possible.

For example, if you are aiming to banish the Devourer on a certain night and things are not going in your favor, and you have gathered enough Ambrosia, escaping is always a good solution.

If you put yourself in danger with little Vigor, the Ambrosia you collected that night will also disappear.

Always know when to decide whether to banish the Devourer or not. The tarot cards you draw will play an influential role in determining this decision.

Although banishing the Devourer may not be easy on some nights, remember that if you succeed, you will obtain a considerable amount of Ambrosia.

Know The Signs Of The Devourer To React Properly

Remember, if you panic and trip over yourself, you'll only make things worse.

If the Devourer is nearby, there will be some indicators, even if you can't see them, and paying attention to these will be to your advantage.

If there are bluish ripples in the corners of the screen, it means the Devourer is quite close. Additionally, you can make deductions by listening to sounds.

Never be deceived by the Devourer being too far away. The Devourer can suddenly spawn near you through some holes you may encounter on the ground, making things even worse for you.

If you've attracted the Devourer's attention and it's chasing you while your Vigor is low, you have two options. The first is to run in a direction where you won't get caught on obstacles and find a good hiding spot.

However, this isn't always possible. Sometimes you might find yourself cornered, or there might be obstacles like fences in the direction you want to escape.

In this case, all you need to do is crouch, turn off your lantern, and make no noise. Afterward, try to slowly move away from the Devourer.

Making Effective Tool Choices Gives You An Advantage

Unfortunately, you can't choose the tools you'll have for free that night or those that will be available on the map. If you want them to be available at the relevant landmarks on the map, you pay with your Vigor.

Of course, choosing too many or expensive items will keep your Vigor low, and you might end up encountering the Devourer and ending your night before it even begins.

Therefore, you should choose your tools effectively. It's worth noting that the tarot cards you draw are quite decisive in this regard.

For example, if you draw the Mighty Pitchfork card that night, it's not a good idea to select the Hatchet.

Since the pitchfork can drop fragments from the Devourer with a single hit that night, you might want to select more defensive tools instead.

On the other hand, in situations where crops or waters are poisoned, choosing the Antitoxin is a good idea.

Find The Weak Point To Each Adaptation

You may not be accustomed to this type of game, and it may not be easy for everyone. While there are plenty of ways you can certainly defeat the Devourer, unexpected moves can sometimes ruin your plans one after another, and you might end up with zero Ambrosia in the Harvest Season.

Even on unsuccessful nights, at the beginning of the game, some cards and tools are always unlocking. Therefore, you can find a method that suits your own playstyle with tools that fit you.

The Devourer has a different mutation every Harvest Season, and though some mutations may be challenging, others can be used to your advantage.

For example, if the Devourer has a mutation that leaves behind a poisonous gas trail, this can also make it easier to see its location. You should try to find the weak point of each adaptation.
