There are many components that enhance the playability of Harvest Hunt. Without these components, the game might not be as enjoyable, and after defeating the Devourer a few times and completing the harvest season, you might not want to play the game further. However, tarot cards you draw each night significantly increase replayability, adding a roguelike layer to the game.

Another factor is the tools that unlock as you play. Some of these tools are offensive, while others are defensive, playing a crucial role in determining the strategy you will use that night. If you're ready, let’s dive in and examine the details of each tool in this guide.

Pitchfork

It starts unlocked.

The Pitchfork is not technically considered a Tool card, but it functions just like one. You can find the Pitchfork at any of the three landmarks in the game. It falls into the offensive tool category and is a melee weapon. If you hit the Devourer three times with it, you will make the Devourer drop a Devourer Fragment.

If you draw the 'Mighty Pitchfork' card during the Whispers phase, the Pitchfork will now make the Devourer drop a fragment with a single hit instead of three. In this case, it’s a good idea to focus on defensive tools rather than other offensive weapons like the Hatchet.

Antitoxin

When It Unlocks

You need to complete 6 nights after the first night.

Antitoxin is a tool you should use entirely situationally; otherwise, there is no reason to take it. When you use this tool, you won’t get poisoned for three minutes.

This is especially useful if you prefer to carry poisoned Devourer Fragments by hand to the Effigy. On the other hand, if you frequently hide in the cornfields, the poisoning of the corn can be quite bothersome, especially considering that a significant portion of the map is covered in corn. Therefore, the Antitoxin can save your day.

However, remember that its effect is limited to three minutes, so plan your next strategy accordingly. Here are the scenarios that may require you to use Antitoxin:

  • Poisoned Corn (Appears as a tarot card during the Whispers phase)
  • Poisoned Fragments (Appears as a tarot card during the Whispers phase)
  • Poisoned Water (Appears as a tarot card during the Whispers phase)
  • Toxic Miasma (Can appear as the Devourer's season-long mutation)

Blood Flask

It unlocks after completing the first night in the tutorial.

The Blood Flask is among the offensive tools. You can choose three of them at a very low cost. In fact, selecting three Blood Flasks is still cheaper than choosing a Hatchet. Therefore, it’s a good choice to avoid reducing your initial Vigor and taking unnecessary risks.

To use the Blood Flask, you need to take some risks, as you must be near the Devourer. As long as the Devourer is nearby, the flask fills with blood, and once it's full, you can throw it from a distance to damage the Devourer and make it drop a Devourer Fragment.

Due to the risky nature of this tool, to fill it with blood, you either need to turn off your lantern and crouch to hide, or let the Devourer chase you.

Jaw Trap

When It Unlocks

You need to complete 15 nights after the first night.

The Jaw Trap is an offensive tool that deals damage to the Devourer causing them to drop a Devourer Fragment. Its price is average, so buying three of them might leave you with low Vigor, but if you're confident, it's a good investment.

Unlike other offensive tools, the Jaw Trap is a trap, so you need to set it on the ground. You must choose the placement carefully; otherwise, it will be completely ineffective. Instead of placing it randomly, you should set it on flat and straight surfaces like wooden bridges or on the circular platform around the Tree Landmark.

Additionally, one of the most impressive features of the Jaw Trap is that once you unlock it, you can spawn one at each landmark. This allows you to use the other useful tools you've placed at that landmark after using the Jaw Trap. This way, you can execute your strategy at a single landmark without moving away or taking unnecessary risks.

Setting this tool without seeing the Devoureris also not a good idea. After spotting the Devourer, you should draw its aggro onto the trap to maximize its effectiveness. Also, if you're desperately fleeing from the Devourer and have some distance between you, you can quickly set this up and then continue running.

Grave Shovel

You need to complete 21 nights after the first night.

The Grave Shovel is an effective defensive tool you can use. It's particularly important to have if the Devourer has become dangerous due to tarot cards and mutations. If you choose the Grave Shovel, your first priority should be to head to the Church as soon as possible.

With this tool, you can dig a grave at a chosen location. This way, if you die, you will resurrect at the grave you dug. It’s beneficial to use this tool near entry points. That way, if you have collected a lot of Ambrosia, you can immediately escape upon resurrecting.

On the other hand, if you are not planning to escape that night, it’s a good idea to dig a grave in an area filled with the tools you plan to use the most. Additionally, if you need one last Devourer Fragment to banish the Devourer, digging a grave near the Effigy can be very useful.

Hatchet

The Hatchet is the most expensive offensive tool. If you plan to buy two of them and are not under any modifier effects, you will be left with 30 Vigor, which creates a very poor scenario for starting the night. Honestly, it would be better for you to get used to using other offensive tools and the Pitchfork as soon as possible, thus eliminating the need for the Hatchet.

On the other hand, the Hatchet is the easiest offensive tool to use. It is effective due to its ranged capability and the fact that it can make the Devourer drop a fragment with a single hit. However, once you understand how the tools work, opting for Blood Flasks or Stinkpots instead of one Hatchet is a more economical strategy.

Holy Water

Where It Spawns

Church landmark

When It Unlocks

You need to complete 9 nights after the first night.

Holy Water is among the defensive tools. Under normal circumstances and without any modifier effects, when the Devourer catches you, you lose 50 Vigor on the first hit. However, if you use Holy Water, the Devourer’s first hit will reduce your Vigor by 25 instead.

Additionally, if you fail to escape from the Devourer after the first hit, your Vigor will decrease by five per hit. Under the effect of Holy Water, the Devourer reduces your Vigor by three per hit instead of five.

Since Holy Water is effective for three minutes, you should maximize its use during this period. Therefore, lure the Devourer to a landmark where you have plenty of offensive tools.

Instead of taking the dropped Devourer Fragments to the Effigy, focus on using your tools and bells to summon the Devourer and make it drop three fragments. This way, you can utilize these three minutes efficiently.

Monster Vane

The Monster Vane is among the cheaper tools. When you place one, its wooden arrow-shaped part will indicate the current position of the Devourer, allowing you to plan your movements accordingly. This way, you can determine which direction it will come from.

Another feature of this tool is its ability to summon the Devourer using the bell attached to it. However, there are enough bells on the game map.

If you want to execute a very specific strategy, such as luring the Devourer near the Effigy and aiming to make it drop a fragment using a pre-equipped offensive tool, you may use it. This way, since the fragment will drop near the Effigy, you can quickly retrieve it and place it.

Similarly, summoning the Devourer with Monster Vane's bell to a location where it may be obstructed by obstacles or where you can easily escape is a good strategy.

Proxy Poppet

When It Unlocks

You need to complete 12 nights after the first night.

The Proxy Poppet is a highly effective offensive tool. When you use it, you can damage the Devourer regardless of its location, with infinite range, causing it to drop a Devourer Fragment. However, the downside of this tool is that it leaves you with only 10 Vigor when used.

Therefore, you should ensure that there are rations or Vigor Elixirs available at the location where you use it, as wandering with such low Vigor can be quite dangerous. Additionally, since the dropped Devourer Fragment may be quite far away, you may need to walk a bit to retrieve it.

Remember that after healing yourself, you can spawn it at the Effigy without going to retrieve the fragment by sacrificing some amount of Vigor.

Scarecrow

You need to complete 18 nights after the first night.

The Scarecrow is a type of tool that can be useful in various situations. Once you acquire it, you need to set it up at any location. Frankly, the specific location where you set it up doesn't matter. After using this tool, sight and sound Fiends remain inactive for three minutes. Dealing only with the Devourer without Fiends makes your run smoother and easier.

If the mutation of the Devourer in your current season is Fiend Alert, then the Scarecrow can be a useful tool. Also, if the number of Fiends has increased due to tarot cards, you can find another reason to prefer this tool. If you have found 'Vandal' among the strength cards of the Warden, you won't need the Scarecrow because you can disable Fiends.

Stinkpot

You need to complete 2 nights after the first night.

The Stinkpot is a highly effective and affordable offensive tool. Its ranged capability further enhances its effectiveness. The only downside is that after using it, the Devourer will chase you for 15 seconds. Therefore, you must be very careful when choosing where to use this tool.

Make sure to select a location where you won’t get stuck or run into obstacles while fleeing.

Additionally, remember that due to its low cost, even if you buy all the Stinkpots or Blood Flasks, they will still be cheaper than a Hatchet. You just need to get accustomed to the playstyle of these types of tools.

Vigor Elixir

Vigor Elixir is among the defensive tools and, frankly, is the only tool that helps you heal. When you use it, your Vigor increases by two approximately every three seconds, and this effect lasts for three minutes. If you find yourself in a tough situation, you can make the most of these three minutes by crouching and turning off your lantern while hiding in the corns.

If you think you've consumed most of the rations on the map, using the Vigor Elixir can save your life. Additionally, it’s a good idea to choose cards like Parasite, Loiterer, Gourmand, and Immortality to further increase your healing from various sources.
