The Oath of the Unseen and Testaments is the answer. This is a modifier system that increases the game's difficulty in exchange for a rare reward. Essentially, once you turn on different modifiers, your runs will be harder. Learn all about these modifiers in this guide.

Hades 2 is currently in Early Access on Steam. As the game develops, more content will be added. We will update this article if anything changes.

How To Unlock The Oath Of The Unseen And Testaments

After defeating Chronos for the first time, you'll unlock the Oath of the Unseen and Testaments. Once you do that and return to the Crossroads, head for the training room, where you willfind an altar between the Underworld and the Surface doors.

How To Reach Chronos

Defeating Chronos requires starting at the Underworld's first biome, Erebus. You will encounter Headmistress Hecate at the end of this biome. After that, you arrive in Oceanus, where you fight Scylla and the Sirens at the end.

After beating the trio bosses, you will land in the Fields of Mourning, whose end is guarded by the Infernal Cerberus boss. Lastly, Tartarus is the final area, and it has Chronos as the last boss.

How The Testaments Of Night System Works

The Testaments of Night is a modifier system. Activating certain modifiers will add unique challenges to your runs, making them tougher. As this feature only appears after you have beaten the game once, thissystem is not designed for beginners.

When you interact with the tablet, you will find Testaments on the left side of the menu and Vows on the right side. Testaments show the bosses that must be beaten, and vows are the modifiers you must activate before you go on the run.

Before activating any Testament, look at the bottom of each boss card: they have an icon with one of Melinoe's weapons. Also, check out the top of the card: it has a purple skull with a digit before it, which represents the fear level. To activate the Testament, you need to equip the weapon shown and reach the displayed fear level.

Increasing the fear bar requires selecting one or more Vows from the right side of the menu screen. For example, if you have a Scylla and the Sirens card with Melinoe's Witch's Staff and the purple skull has a two, you must equip Melinoe with the Witch's Staff and activate at least two Vows.

Everyboss card will always remain grayed out (disabled) until you equip the specified weapon and activate the Vows to raise the required fear level.

If you don't fill the requisites, the Testament remains disabled for the future run, which means it will have the default difficulty.

Some Vows have ranks that you can intensify. Intensifying a Vow from rank one to rank three counts as three fear levels. So if you see a skull with a three, you can choose between selecting three different Vows or just intensifying one to rank three.

For example, if you activate rank one of the Vow of Blood, enemies will inflict 20 percent increased damage to Melinoe. At rank two, this increases to 60 percent; at rank three, the damage buff against Melinoe increases to 100 percent.

Since each modifier offers unique challenges during a run, sometimes it is wise to limit the negative effects of certain Vows by activating and intensifying a single Vow type. This will help you remember to be cautious against a certain effect during the run.

Every time you beat an active Testament, the overall fear level requirement will increase for future runs. For example, when you interact with the tablet for the first time, all bosses will have one fear level requirement. However, as you complete Testaments and return to Crossroads every night, the fear level of some cards will gradually increase.
