Choir of One is an Exotic weapon you can acquire through the Encore mission in Destiny 2's Echoes season. This weapon is effectively a Wyvern cannon turned into an Auto Rifle, firing multiple projectiles that detonate on impact. It's a powerhouse in PvE, but you'll need to unlock all of its intrinsic upgrades and Catalyst options to make the most of it.

Defeat the Choral Mind and get your hands on Choir of One with this in-depth mission walkthrough.

These upgrades come from hidden chests found in the Encore Exotic mission. Most hidden chests unlock some sort of intrinsic upgrade or a new Catalyst perk. Each upgrade can be applied to the gun in the Enclave in Savathun's Throne World, allowing you to craft the perfect Choir of One for your build. Here is where you can find every hidden chest in Destiny 2's Encore mission.

Updated September 10, 2024, by Charles Burgar: The final pair of hidden chests in Encore are now available to claim, awarding you with the last set of Intrinsic upgrades for Choir of One as well as the Onslaught Catalyst. Some entries were also slightly rewritten for clarity.

Hidden Chest Unlock Requirements

Unlike most Exotic missions, there are prerequisites you need to meet before you can find hidden chests in the Encore mission. You must complete the following for hidden chests to spawn:

  1. Complete any variant of Encore at least once.
  2. Complete the "Specimen: NES007" quest.
  3. Obtain a Choir of One quest from Banshee-44 in the Tower.

Your chosen difficulty does not matter. The hidden chests spawn in both difficulty modes, provided you've completed the above prerequisites.

Completing any Encore variant is the first step. Encore has three versions that will presumably rotate each week. You simply need to complete the mission once on any difficulty.

Specimen: NES007 is unlocked during the Encore activity and cannot be missed. You'll receive this quest upon interacting with Maya Sundaresh's test subjects in the Ishtar lab, just before the Choral Mind boss. You must complete this quest in its entirety. We suggest playing seasonal Battlegrounds or Breach Executable to get this quest done as quickly as possible.

Choir of One has a Catalyst quest you can pick up from Banshee-44 upon completing any Encore variant. These quests are time-gated and will slowly unlock as additional Encore variants release. Speak with Banshee-44 in the Tower to pick up a Catalyst quest. Banshee's quests are retroactive, so don't worry if you forget to grab one.

Hidden Chest 1

Encore Variant

Overture

Location

Before Vex Node Puzzle

Reward

Seasonal Gear

The first hidden chest is found just before the first Vex Node puzzle. When you drop into the purple room, you'll want to head left instead of forward. This will lead you to an isolated chamber surrounded in dormant portals. Interact with the Vex data pillar in the center of the room to start the puzzle.

If the pillar isn't there for you, it means someone in your fireteam hasn't completed the chest prerequisites we mentioned earlier.

Your fireteam will see four Vex cubes appear after a fairly long delay. One of the cubes will have a glowing, smaller cube floating under it. You must destroy the Vex cube with the smaller cube under it. Repeat this process until all four cubes are destroyed. Another set will spawn shortly afterward. Break the second set to spawn the chest.

Hidden Chest 2

Encore Variant

Overture

Location

Before the boss duo encounter.

Reward

Command Frame II

You must open Hidden Chest #1 for this chest to appear.

Shortly before you reach the boss encounter with the Subjugator and Tormentor, you'll enter a spacious room guarded by Shadow Legion and Vex. The room with a Vex Piston should have an active pillar. Interact with the pillar to activate the nearby portal. Travel through the next set of portals until you reach the start of the Encore mission.

This chest requires you to shoot five plates in 90 seconds. The order in which you shoot these plates doesn't matter; you just need to hit all five. Interacting with the pillar will reveal the general direction of all five plates. Follow the lines projecting out of the pillar to reach each plate.

Close

If you still can't find them, here are the locations we found the plates. It's unclear if these spawns are the same for everyone:

  1. Directly across from the data structure, facing the stairs. It'll be on a destroyed Vex pillar.
  2. Left of the portal you used. It'll be on a wall next to a tree.
  3. Stand at the data structure and face the first plate. Turn 90 degrees to your right and walk towards the cliff. The plate will be on a wall.
  4. On a wall facing the exit ramp.
  5. Next to the spherical structure used to leave the starting zone. The plate is on a tree.

Return to the data stream to claim your rewards. If you fail to break all five plates in 90 seconds, some enemies will spawn nearby. Eliminate them and try again.

Hidden Chest 3

Encore Variant

Concerto

Location

Before the boss duo encounter.

Reward

Command Frame III

You must open Hidden Chest #1 for this chest to appear.

Close

In the Vex Piston room right before the Dread boss duo, enter the portal and exit through the portal directly across from you. You'll end up in a room similar to Hidden Chest #5's puzzle. This puzzle requires you to destroy the correct cube to make the Minotaur boss vulnerable. As with Hidden Chest #1, the correct cube is denoted by asmaller, white Vex cube floating beside it.

Rending the boss' shield is a straightforward process. The room is broken up into five dormant portals, each with a plate you can activate by depositing a module. These modules drop from slain Minotaur majors. Deposit the module next to a portal to activate it. The catch is that these portals link to different rooms. Portals are linked in the following way (assume Portal 1 is left):

  • Portal 1 (Left) ⇾ Portal 4
  • Portal 2 ⇾ Portal 1
  • Portal 3 ⇾ Portal 5
  • Portal 4 ⇾ Portal 3
  • Portal 5 (Right) ⇾ Portal 2
Close

Start the puzzle by stranding it in the pool of data in front of the Minotaur. Kill the smaller Minotaurs and open the portals. Three cubes will be visible on the second floor. Shoot whichever one has a smaller Vex cube beside it. If done correctly, the Minotaur boss will become vulnerable. Remove 33% of its HP and repeat the process. Completing this puzzle will unlock a new set of intrinsics for Choir of One.

A specimen will also spawn beside the chest (NES008). Be sure to grab it.

Hidden Chest 4

Encore Variant

Coda

Location

Before the boss duo encounter.

Reward

Command Frame IV

You must open Hidden Chest #1 for this chest to appear.

You arrive at Hidden Chest 4 in the same way as Chests 2-4. Before you reach the dual boss encounter, break the Vex Piston and head through the portal. You'll want to take the left portal, the one that leads you outside.

The start of Encore will now have two data pillars you can interact with. Activate the pillar up the stars where you first start the mission. This will start a 90-second time trial where you must kill three Minotaurs. They're fairly skittish and will teleport at the first sign of trouble, so use a Rocket Launcher or Grenade Launcher to kill them quickly. If you can't find them, the Minotaurs spawn on the edges of the arena. Kill all three and claim your new intrinsic upgrade.

Hidden Chest 5

Encore Variant

Overture

Location

Maya's Lab

Reward

Subsistence Retrofit

This chest is easy to find but incredibly tricky to unlock. You'll find this chest in Maya Sundaresh's lab just before you face the Choral Mind. A data pillar will appear right next to an inactive portal. Interact with the pillar and enter the portal.

Close

Once you enter a series of portals, you'll end up in a small room surrounded by inactive portals and two Activate Modules. These modules can only be accessed through portals on the ground floor, but the catch is that the portals teleport you somewhere else. Assume Portal #1 is the leftmost portal. Portals are labeled clockwise.

  • Portal 1 (Left) ⇾ Portal 4
  • Portal 2 ⇾ Portal 1
  • Portal 3 ⇾ Portal 5
  • Portal 4 ⇾ Portal 3
  • Portal 5 (Right) ⇾ Portal 2

Destroy all five capsules to unlock the Subsistence perk for Choir of One.

Hidden Chest 6

Encore Variant

Concerto

Location

Maya's Lab

Reward

Destabilizing Retrofit

You must open Hidden Chest #1 for this chest to appear.

In the Concerto variant of Encore, make your way to Maya's Lab just before you reach the final boss. Activate the pylon, enter the portal, and use the left portal exit to reach the new puzzle. You should be in a narrow tunnel if you took the correct exit.

This puzzle requires you to uncover hidden Vex spheres in an underground labyrinth. It can get fairly confusing down here, so here's a breakdown of where to go:

Close
  1. From spawn, run to the end of the tunnel and hang right. Kill the Minotaur at the end of the path to gain a red module.
    1. Look for a gap in the wall near the Minotaur. This houses the first Vex sphere.
Close
  1. Run back to the first red plate you saw, located next to the spawn portal. Kill the Minotaur.
  2. Deposit the red module onto the closet plate. Activate the Vex sphere inside.
Close
  1. Grab the red module you just deposited. Run down the stairs to the next red plate and activate it.
  2. Kill the Minotaur in this room to gain a blue module. Use it to activate the portal.
Close
  1. Use the portal to enter the next room. Kill the Minotaur to gain a yellow module.
    1. A Vex sphere spawns on a pillar directly across from the portal, floating beside a bronze plate.
  2. Deposit the yellow module. This loops back to the starting area.
Close
  1. Backtrack to the last red module you deposited (the portal module).
  2. Deposit the red module in the remaining red plate (the one next to the yellow partition plate).
  3. Run back and grab the red module next to the entrance.
  4. Deposit the second red module.
  5. Activate the final Vex sphere.

After you grab all three spheres, you'll unlock Destabilizing Rounds for Choir of One.

Hidden Chest 7

Encore Variant

Coda

Location

Maya's Lab

Reward

Onslaught Retrofit

You must open Hidden Chest #1 for this chest to appear.

Make your way to Maya's Lab once more and interact with the data stream. You'll want to enter the portal that leads you to a square-shaped cavern that houses a small research facility. Kill all the adds in the arena until they stop spawning. You should have one green Vex Node and an Arc Cranium cannon when you're done.

Close

Your goal in this puzzle is to ricochet your Arc beam across slanted walls while standing in pre-determined locations. It's the exact same process as the Echoes opening mission and the Breach Executable activity. Here's the general rundown:

  1. Insert a Vex Node into a nearby deposit station. This will spawn slanted walls nearby.
  2. Get an Arc Cranium by killing a Minotaur.
  3. Stand on a glowing plate in a nearby corner.
  4. Aim your Arc Cranium at the slanted platforms. You're trying to ricochet the beam as far as possible.
    • This requires precise aim. If this is difficult for you, turn down your in-game sensitivity and take it slow.
  5. Move the Vex Node to another station. Repeat.

Completing two sides will unveil a second green node you can deposit, spawning two sets of ricochet walls. Dunk both nodes into adjacent plates and get blasting. Once you've cleared all four sets, the research lab will open and spawn the final reward: the Onslaught Catalyst for Choir of One.

Specimen NES009 is found on a table next to the chest. Be sure to grab it.
