Summary

  • Ultimate Skills have shifted the tier list in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, benefiting characters like Zeta who excel at corner pressure.
  • Soriz has received buffs in Rising, allowing him to compete with the rest of the cast and become a top fighter.
  • Cagliostro is a nightmare to play against due to her zoning abilities and trap set-ups, especially in the corner.

With the launch of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, characters have received tons of buffs and nerfs across the board, shifting their places in the tier list. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has 14 stages, taking from tropical islands to the abyss and everything in between, but which of them is the best?

Most characters’ buffs come from the addition of Ultimate Skills, giving most a way to bypass neutral and quickly start landing blows. Characters like Zeta, who just want to put a character in the corner as fast as they can, benefit greatly from this new mechanic.

10 Beelzebub

Spin To Win!

  • Tall Fireball
  • Excellent Anti-Air

One of the most evil characters in the roster, the long-haired demon is a great well-rounded character. Beelzebub has excellent poke normals, an amazing fireball, a full-screen dive kick, and tons of other shenanigans to make your opponent kick their router.

Even though Beelzebub feels like a jack-of-all-trades character, he has a ton of gimmick moves like a teleport and a move that can pull your opponent right next to you. These attacks seem very powerful, but with the help of the block button, they can be avoided.

9 Soriz

The Only Weapon He Trusts Is His Body

  • Install Super Skybound Art
  • Rushdown Character

Soriz has come a long way from his days in the original Granblue Fantasy Versus. When he was released, the brawler was a low-tier character that couldn’t compete with much of the cast. With the buffs he received in Rising, Soriz can now fight his way to the top.

The added Ultimate Skills helped with Soriz’s biggest issue, closing the distance. With a character as brawly as Soriz, you’ll want to stay right next to the opponent at all times with his Super Skybound Art installed.

8 Cagliostro

Set Up All Of The Traps

  • Interesting Setup Character
  • Amazing Zoner

Cagliostro is one of the most interesting characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. She can leave small traps on the ground that, if stepped on by your opponent, will damage them and make the match a chore.

Since placing her traps is her main game plan, Cagliostro is an excellent zoner, with even better setplay in the corner. Her traps combined with her barrage of special moves, make her a nightmare to play with your back against the wall. Your opponents will never be able to block correctly once you put them in the corner.

7 Vira

Katalina’s Biggest Fan

  • Great Mixup Tools
  • Excellent Pokes

Vira can play an excellent midscreen game with her long and relatively safe pokes, but where she truly excels is at her mixup game. Vira’s dashing dive kick is plus on block, making her pressure extremely safe from punishes.

Her Unique attack is a command grab that is quite telegraphed, but if you have conditioned your opponent into waiting for her dash dive kick, then you are sure to hit them with her grab since they both have similar startup animations.

6 Siegfried

The Brooding Dragon Knight

  • Heavy And Slow Attacks
  • One Of The Best Fireballs

Players were excited to see that another Dragon Knight was included in the initial roster for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Siegfried’s massive sword can be deadly in the hands of a slow and methodical player.

Even though he is a slow character, Siegfried offers great defense and an excellent fireball that lets you skip neutral, or midscreen section, by quickly dashing behind it. He also has a special move that allows the player to trade some of his life for some neat power buffs.

5 Lancelot

The Twinfang Prodigy

  • Fast And Hard To Read
  • Great Corner Escape Options

If your goal in this game is to confuse your opponent by quickly dashing in and out of the screen, then Lancelot is the character for you. This character can easily overwhelm your opponent with a barrage of slashes with his “rekka” style attacks, making it hard to know what attack you’ll end up on.

Like most rushdown characters, Lancelot does not have a great uppercut, but he does have plenty of ways to escape the corner with his myriad of movement options, like his wall jump.

4 Belial

The Narcissistic Fallen Angel

  • Best Fireball
  • Great Buttons

The best characters in GBVS:R all have a great way to get out of the corner, most of the time being an invincible uppercut, but in the case of Belial, that is not a thing. Belial has an uppercut, but it is not invincible or relatively fast; what puts him aside from the rest of the cast is his excellent fireball.

Even though Belial is not considered a zoner character, his fireball is one of the hardest to control in the game. Depending on the situation, Belial can send his fireball wherever you may please, but if they somehow get past them, you can counterattack with one of the best parry animations in gaming.

3 Seox

The Mark Of Destiny

  • Fast Character
  • Tools For Every Scenario

What if Wolverine from Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 got a demon flip, a fireball, and a teleport? Even though a Wolverine and Akuma love child would be great, Seox’s attacks are extremely difficult for a lot of players to deal with.

Similar to Lancelot, Seox only cares about moving fast and overwhelming his opponents with his attacks. He can bounce off the wall into a fullscreen divekick, he has plenty of safe moves, and his rekkas alone make for basic mixups. That’s too much swiss cheese for one character.

2 Zeta

Crimson Piercing Light

  • Best Ultimate Skill In The Game
  • Hardest Character To Play

A high damage output, a high skill ceiling, and the best Ultimate Skill in the game make Zeta an amazing character. Most characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising have a way to rush into your opponent’s face, but Zeta’s Ultimate Skill leaves everyone in the dust.

In the hands of a great player, the attack can lead to a combo that can delete half of a character’s life bar. With her spear attack’s fast in-and-out movement, Zeta can deal some fast damage.

1 Nier

The First Granblue Puppet Character

  • Combo Potential Out Of A Counter
  • Best Pressure In The Game

Puppet characters in fighting games usually have excellent pressure since you can place your puppet behind the opponent, making them guess every time, but Nier is on a tier of her own. Her counterattack has amazing range that can be converted into a full combo that can delete more than half of your opponent’s life.

Even Nier’s auto combos can lead into an almost infinite block string, making it hard to answer back while backed into a corner.
