Baldur's Gate 3 Devs On Larian's Next Game: "Let Us Cook"

Summary
- Larian is planning bigger and better cinematics for its next game after Baldur's Gate 3.
- One dev cites Gale's romance scene as a benchmark all cinematics should reach in the future.
- They also say that they are working "as fast as [they] can" on their next RPGs.
Larian has touched on its next games after Baldur's Gate 3, sharing what areas it would like to improve on going forward. However, the cinematics team emphasises that this will take time, asking fans to "let [them] cook".
This comes from a talk with TheGamer, going over the making of Baldur's Gate 3 cinematics. As part of this, the devs reveal that they're already moving on to the next game, figuring out how they can improve from their work on Baldur's Gate 3.

Larian and two motion capture actors walk us through the filming of Baldur's Gate 3 - all the romance and violence they brought to life.
Posts"We certainly don't want to sit back and go, ‘Ah, we did it’," says Greg Lidstone, director of animation at Larian. "That's the worst thing to do, especially for artists like ourselves, we want to do better. We want to improve on what we've done.
"I'd like to do more in the future, bigger scenes. The Gale [romance] scene was probably one of the most successful, I would love to have that level of fidelity for everything across the board."
Larian's cinematic animations producer, Leah Caldwell, also touched on what comes next, as I asked what she'd say to fans who are apprehensive about the studio moving on from Baldur's Gate.
"Apart from the 'Let us cook' line?," she laughs. "I've had a few conversations with people about this after Swen [Vincke, Larian CEO] did the GDC talk. A lot of people are understanding of us wanting to do that, and having more flexibility and allowing us to continue on within our kind of own universes."
She continues, making it clear that work is already underway: "I think people will really love what we're cooking up and the stories that we're going to tell."
Lidstone agrees, "Give us some time. Because these things don't happen overnight. We're moving as fast as we can.
"Even if we're not doing another Baldur’s Gate, we're doing something that I'm really excited about, that I can't tell my wife about," he adds. "I really do enjoy coming into work, because there's so many cool ideas that I'm seeing in the concept art channels as people are working up ideas, it's just super exciting."
What Is Larian Working On Next?
Baldur's Gate 3's support is still ongoing, with a new patch coming this September. It's also planning two new RPGs, neither of which are part of the Dungeons & Dragons IP. With that in mind, it's possible that Larian will return to its Divinity series, following on from Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017. However, that is just speculation at this point.
For now, fans will have to let them cook - they don't have anything else to share just yet.
