If I had to put it elegantly, Doom is the grand-pappy of first-person shooter games. This game's been here for ages, basically defining the breakneck pace that the genre has become known for. And then, it happened. We got the glorious 2016 DOOM reboot, which resuscitated the series with its frenzied, ultra-violent fighting and jaw-dropping visuals. The core gameplay loop is simple but ever so gratifying - you're pitted in enclosed arenas brimming with demons that you have to obliterate so you can progress, blended in with a guns and armor upgrade framework that inspires a thirst for hunting down demons.

Eternal basically builds on top of its forerunner's base with gameplay that's even more bonkers. There's new mechanics like the "glory kill" technique, where executing specific melee takedowns on weakened baddies spills health goodies. The devs have also honed the combat loop to a razor's edge, demanding aggressiveness while supplying the tools to sustain it.
