Wriothesley's playstyle emulates the typical HP-draining mechanics that are found throughout the Fontaine region, which in turn gives him a massive buff to his cryo punches and allows him to dish out some pretty deadly single-target damage. Luckily, since Wriothesley does wield a catalyst, there are a great deal of powerful weapon options that he can readily choose from.

Updated on April 12, 2025, by Asad Kashif: Wriothesley's options for good catalysts were never scarce, but with Natlan's release, he now has access to more weapons than ever. From Mualani's signature, Surf's Up, to more four-star options, we've made new additions and gone through already existing catalysts to compile a complete list of Wriothesley's best weapons for Genshin players who want a taste of his punching power.

14 Frostbearer - Four-Star

Decent Early-Game Option

If you've just started getting into Genshin Impact, chances are, you won't have access to any of the best weapons for any specific character. In such cases, you'll usually have to equip a three-star weapon until you find a better alternative.

However, if you can't wait till you're at a higher level and want to see big numbers as quickly as possible, crafting the Frostbearer can let your Wriothesley perform relatively well when faced with early-game content. It's not the best weapon, and you should still switch out whenever you can, but it's an upgrade over three-star options.

13 Dodoco Tales - Four-Star

Get Buffs From Switching Between Normal And Charged Attacks

Dodoco Tales is a largely forgotten weapon in Genshin Impact, only available to players for a limited time in Genshin's earliest days. However, for those who were lucky enough to get it, Dodoco Tales works as a good Wriothesley weapon.

The weapon does have an ATK secondary stat, making it less effective in teams utilizing Bennett, but the passive is why it works on Wriothesley. Each time you use a Normal Attack, you increase your Charged Attack damage, and each time you use your Charged Attack, you increase your ATK. This playstyle of weaving in different attacks fits him a lot, and it would've been one of Wriothesley's best weapons if not for the ATK percent secondary stat.

12 Mappa Mare - Four-Star

Fine Craftable Option

If you are hard-pressed to find a quick, craftable option for Wriothesley and have yet to unlock any of the weapons in Fontaine, then the Mappa Mare is your only option. This weapon gives you an okay boost in Elemental Mastery and a passive that gives you an eight to 16 percent Elemental Damage increase whenever you trigger elemental reactions.

Since this weapon's second stat provides Elemental Mastery, you'll want to strictly use this weapon while playing reverse-melt teams, so you should only equip this weapon if you have Pyro units, such as Bennett and Xiangling, on your team. While the damage increase is certainly nice to have, there are simply other options that provide more flexibility in your team compositions.

11 Blackcliff Agate - Four-Star

Good F2P Weapon

The Blackcliff Agate is one of Genshin Impact's oldest weapons, yet it continues to be the first go-to option for any new catalyst DPS added to the game. It's not anyone's best-in-slot, but the generally useful passive and stat combo makes it a good weapon for any catalyst user who wants to deal damage, especially those scaling off of ATK.

The Blackcliff Agate is a completely F2P weapon available to players from the Starglitter shop. If you've saved up Starglitter from pulling for characters, you can buy enough copies of the weapon to level it up to refinement five instantly.

For its passive, it increases the user's ATK upon killing enemies. This results in the weapon performing better in AOE scenarios than in single-target combat, but the CRIT DMG stat by itself makes the Blackcliff Agate a strong Wriothesley weapon.

10 Ballad Of The Boundless Blue - Four-Star

Increases Normal And Charged Attack Damage

If you have collected the Ballad of the Boundless Blue through the limited-time poetry event, then you can use this rare catalyst quite effectively on Wriothesley. This exclusive catalyst provides you with a sizable amount of Energy Recharge as a secondary stat, ensuring that you will always have your Elemental Burst ready to activate whenever it is off-cooldown.

The weapon truly shines at buffing Wriothesley through the book's passive since it provides a 24 to 48 percent damage increase to your basic attacks and an 18 to 32 percent damage increase whenever you use charged attacks against enemies. While this is a great weapon on Wriothesley, it is only available for a limited time, with seemingly no option to get it once the event disappears.

9 Flowing Purity - Four-Star

Gain Buffs From Clearing Bond Of Life

The best free-to-play option for Wriothesley is definitely the craftable catalyst called Flowing Purity, a weapon that has a new gameplay mechanic that can get rather confusing. Specifically, with this weapon equipped, you will receive an eight to 16 percent Elemental Damage bonus whenever you activate your Elemental Skill, and you will also create a Bond of Life based on 24 percent of your character's maximum HP. When you clear this Bond of Life, you'll gain further bonuses.

To make full use of the Bond of Life clearing passive in a single rotation, the equipping character has to be on 25k HP. Since Wriothesley isn't an HP-scaler, he isn't able to fully stack it.

This Bond of Life is shown as a red symbol on your health bar and blocks any healing that you receive while the debuff is active. You must heal the debuff's HP amount before your character can receive further healing, so you may want to use a healer like Bennett or Kokomi if you are using this weapon.

8 A Thousand Floating Dreams - Five-Star

Underrated Option For Melt Teams

A Thousand Floating Dreams is Nahida's best weapon, made to be utilized by Dendro characters mainly. This may make the weapon seem useless on Wriothesley, but reading through the weapon's passive shows a different result entirely.

A Thousand Floating Dreams increases the equipping character's Elemental Mastery for each character of the same element on the team and their DMG Bonus for each character belonging to a different element. Ensure Wriothesley is the only Cryo character in the party to focus on Elemental DMG Bonus.

The weapon will give your Wriothesley a huge amount of Elemental Mastery, which is already good for Reverse Melt teams. However, where the weapon shines is its passive, which lets you have a 30 percent Elemental DMG Bonus at all times in most Melt teams and a good combination of DMG Bonus and Elemental Mastery in others. This puts the DMG Percentage just below Wriothesley's other best weapons, Surf's Up's 48 percent, and even his signature, Cashflow Supervision's 46 percent.

All of this, and A Thousand Floating Dreams still has more to offer, giving party members more Elemental Mastery. This isn't a huge amount, but if you're using a strong Pyro sub DPS like Xiangling, it can increase the damage of her Vapes.

7 The Widsith - Four-Star

Random Buffs

As always, The Widsith proves why it is one of the best four-star weapons in the game, so long as you have wished for this catalyst a few times and collected some refinements. By providing 55.1 percent crit damage and a nice base attack, you will be able to easily apply a solid crit ratio on Wriothesley, ensuring that you always maximize your damage.

The Widsith truly shines through its passive effect, which activates one of three different buffs randomly whenever the character wielding the catalyst takes the field. The three buffs are a 60 to 120 percent increase to your character's attack, a 48 to 96 percent Elemental Damage increase, or a 240 to 480 increase to your character's Elemental Mastery. While most of these are universal, the Elemental Mastery buff only benefits Melt teams, which are the teams where The Widsith performs most consistently.

6 Skyward Atlas - Five-Star

Fine Five-Star Statstick

The Skyward Atlas is one of two catalysts you can get from the Standard Banner or from losing your 50/50. As such, you could easily have collected this weapon throughout your time playing the game. While this catalyst does not boost your CRIT, it still provides a solid boost to your overall attack, which is perfect if you are not using a team that utilizes Bennett's attack buff.

Specifically, this weapon's secondary stat rewards you with a hefty 33.1 percent increase to your attack, and the passive increases your Elemental Damage bonus by 12 percent. Finally, once every 30 seconds, your attacks have a chance to generate missiles that seek out enemies on the battlefield, dealing 160 percent attack damage as some extra free damage.

5 Lost Prayers To The Sacred Winds - Five-Star

Five-Star Statstick With CRIT

Like the Skyward Atlas, Lost Prayers To The Sacred Wind is one of two five-star catalysts available to all players via the standard banner, so you may have gotten lucky enough to obtain this weapon randomly. Sadly, this weapon really only serves as a nice stat boost to Wriothesley's damage numbers since he does not stay on the field long enough to utilize the passive's full effects.

The passive does eventually reach a 32 percent damage increase with time, which would make it quite strong. However, you'll need to stay on Wriothesley for 16 entire seconds uninterrupted for it to stack, which isn't something you'd normally want to do. Instead, you'd usually be averaging around 8-16 percent DMG Bonus, which is significantly lower than what other options provide.
