Marvel Rivals: Best DPS Characters For Overwatch Players

Summary
- We would avoid characters like Black Panther and Magik if we were you: they have little to do with Overwatch heroes.
- There are a few supports from OW reimagined as DPS, like Storm and Scarlet Witch.
- Punisher is the best Duelist in Marvel Rivals, with elements from both Soldier 76 and Bastion.
The similarities between Overwatch and Marvel Rivals are evident. Marvel's take on the hero shooter genre feels like the developer's take on their own version of Overwatch 1, with universally beloved characters at the helm, and destructible environments (a promised OW2 feature that never came) as a bonus.

PostsSo if you're coming from Overwatch 2, or even if you'd given up on the game before the sequel came out, you can have a very smooth transition by picking characters that will feel very familiar. Here are all Marvel Rivals Duelists ranked for how easy they'll be for Overwatch players to pick up
This isn't a list ranking the game's duelists from worst to best. For that, you can check this piece out. On this one, our only criterion is: "How easy is this character to pick up, if you're coming from Overwatch 1 or 2?"
10 Black Panther
Nothing Familiar Here
The hero of Wakanda is the worst Duelist choice for an Overwatch player. Not only is Black Panther one of the weakest characters in Marvel Rivals, he is very different from any DPS that you might've played in Blizzard's hero shooter.
He has no ranged tools, has a very high-skill floor, and his damage doesn't reward your efforts, even when you get good at him. The way he can refresh the cooldown of his Shift shares some similarities with Genji's Ultimate, but that is as far as reasonable comparisons can go.
9 Magik
Plays Like Nothing You've Seen In Overwatch
Magik is another melee Duelist, but one with a decent ranged tool. This doesn't make her much better than Black Panther as a choice for an Overwatch player who's making the transition to Marvel Rivals.
She needs to be played almost perfectly to really have an impact, and you'll have a hard time finding direct comparisons between her and OW DPS heroes. She does share a passive with Doomfist (who's been a tank for years now), which is getting temporary HP off of damage dealt.
8 Spider-Man
As Steep As The Learning Curve Gets
Despite being an excellent character, Spider-Man is another hero who lacks strong similarities to Overwatch characters. Genji players will see a familiar playstyle, with a focus on mastering mobility above all else, and jumping in and out for quick assassinations.
The individual abilities have no comparison points, though, outside of Spidey having a web-hook reminiscent of Roadhog's ability. If you give him a chance, just get ready for a steep learning curve.
7 Namor
If You Thought Torbjörn Was Weird, Think Again
Namor is a weird one. Marvel's version of Aquaman is a Torbjörn with weaker turrets, and that is as underwhelming as it sounds. He is ranged, though, and that will be much more familiar for any DPS player coming from Overwatch.
He has a strong defensive tool, a greater emphasis on his primary and secondary fire than Torbjörn, and a very impactful ultimate. As a first choice for an Overwatch player, Namor is a decent pick.
6 Storm
A Zappy Lucio
Can you imagine Lucio as a DPS hero? You don't need to, because that's Storm. This member of X-Men deals a ton of damage, while buffing her teammates. She has an AOE buff around her, which can give move speed or damage to allies.

If you were a tank in Overwatch and want to try what's up in Marvel Rivals, here are some picks that might make you feel at home. At least a bit.
PostsStorm flies freely, so she is able to change positions easily. Her Ultimate is extremely impactful, and she works well in compositions that Overwatch players will recognize as classic Dive Comps. You can't go wrong with picking her.
5 Scarlet Witch
Moira Got Tired Of Healing
Staying on the "Overwatch supports reimagined as DPS heroes" topic, Scarlet Witch is Moira as a DPS character. And before you say that Moira IS a DPS character, the Witch has no healing tools. Her primary fire is a copy-past of Moira's alternate one, and her right click is a great AOE damage blast.
Scarlet's defensive tool is her Shift, which works very similarly to Moira's. Reality Erasure, Scarlet Witch's Ultimate, is D.Va's Self Destruct, except you are the one who explodes.
4 Star-Lord
"I'm Already Tracer"
Star-Lord is the first traditional gun-wielding hero on our list. This will make him immediately familiar to Overwatch players, but even more so to ones who've played Tracer. Star-Lord also carries around two automatic pistols, and he has a ton of mobility.
Although he rewards good aim, he shares his ultimate with Soldier 76. Star-Lord's aimbot comes with jetpacks though, so his is definitely cooler. He isn't as pesky and annoying as Tracer, but he makes up for it by having a lot more damage.
3 Hela
Pop Some Heads
There are, for now, no snipers in Marvel Rivals. So, if you're a Widowmaker main, you won't have a direct counterpart available, but Hela will do the job. This Duelist hero has the highest damage burst of any character in the game, and she can two-shot most squishies with just her primary attack.
Hela doesn't have Widowmaker's Grappling Hook, but she can transform into a Nastrond Crow, moving rapidly in any direction she wants, including up. She can also glide, so you'll be focused on using high-ground positions often, just like a sniper would.
2 Iron Man
Where's His Mercy?
If your main was Phara, look no further. Iron Man is your guy, and you will feel as if you're just playing a better version of the missile-throwing Overwatch hero. Tony Stark has infinite flight and can throw missile barrages after using certain abilities. Oh, he also comes with a ray of death.
Much like Phara, Iron Man's main issue is that he is vulnerable to ranged damage, and unlike Phara, he has no Mercy to pocket him. Regardless of that, he is easy to pilot (pun intended), deals a lot of damage, and will feel instantly familiar to most OW players.
1 Punisher
Soldier Seventy Bastion
Let's say you enjoyed showering your enemies with bullets in Overwatch as you played Soldier 76 and Bastion. You might wonder if there's anything for you in Marvel Rivals. Most of these heroes have probably never even grabbed a gun. Don't you worry, there's one hero who has enough guns to make up for the whole roster.
Punisher is Soldier 76, except he carries Bastion on his back, while Bastion carries an entire arsenal of weapons on his back. He is the best Duelist in the entire game, and the easiest for an Overwatch player to pick up. If you've played either of the aforementioned heroes in Blizz's Hero Shooter, you'll have no trouble destroying your opposition with Punisher.
