A reliable data firm has reported that Grand Theft Auto 6’s strong pre-order figures suggest that it could make a whopping $5 billion in its first week alone.

Before GTA 6 was even confirmed to be a thing, it was already certain that it would make an unbelievable amount of money. Grand Theft Auto is one of the biggest gaming franchises out there, with GTA 5 standing as the second best-selling game of all time. With the hype for GTA 6 being even bigger, it’s inevitably going to make some big money.

Even with the game being priced at $80 for the standard edition and the physical release just being a code in a box, pre-orders for GTA 6 have already blown through the roof. They’re so strong, in fact, that one analyst firm has predicted an eye-watering sales figure for the game in just its first week.

GTA 6 Will Make $5 Billion In Its First Week, Data Firm Claims

That Code In A Box Isn’t Slowing Things Down At All

As reported by Insider Gaming, industry-leading data firm Newzoo has recently reported that approximately $260 million has been generated from GTA 6’s pre-orders since they opened towards the end of last month. That’s far from the “absurd” billion that has been previously claimed, but it’s still a very strong start.

That being said, GTA 6’s pre-orders are very likely the strongest in gaming history, which should come as no surprise. Newzoo’s Ronan Patrick claims that these figures suggest that GTA 6 is “on track” to make between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in its first week on sale alone, a massive jump up from its current pre-order figures.

Considering GTA 5 is reported to have made $1 billion in three days back in 2013, it’s not a stretch to imagine GTA 6 making three times that with gaming being bigger than ever. GTA 6 is unarguably the biggest game of all time, so it’s very likely that it's going to speed past GTA 5's figures in record time.

The only thing that's really holding GTA 6 back is the fact that this console generation has a smaller install base than the PS3 and Xbox 360. I can only imagine that's going to change a bit with the prospect of a new GTA to play, though.
