New Elden Ring Nightreign Details Emerge
Nightreign is a standalone co-op spin-off of 2022's Game of the Year winner Elden Ring, in which three players team up to survive three days in the treacherous Lands Between.
In their hands-on with the game, IGN revealed that each of the game's three days lasts for around 15 minutes and is punctuated by a difficult boss fight, with returning bosses from the original Elden Ring, including the Draconic Tree Sentinel and the Demi-Human Queen. The title will also feature new bosses, including something called the Centipede Demon, and seemingly, a range of returning enemies from previous FromSoftware games.
Interestingly, Nightreign seems to be taking cues from Epic Games' mega-hit Fortnite, with the game featuring a circle that shrinks as time passes each day. Rather than a physical storm, however, Elden Ring Nightreign's ring will be comprised of acid rain, and is known as the 'ring of reign'.
IGN also reports that Nightreign will have eight playable classes, including the Guardian, Wylder, Duchess, and Recluse, each of which has its own specialties and drawbacks.
Nightreign will have eight playable classes, including the Guardian, Wylder, Duchess, and Recluse, each of which has its own specialties and drawbacks.
The game is seemingly focused on a much more streamlined experience, with wall-running added to help traverse some of The Land Between's verticality and fall damage removed. It will also have a much smoother auto-leveling system, and FromSoftware has completely removed the weight management mechanics from its previous games.
Finally, IGN reports that Nightreign will be a full retail release with no battle pass or live-service elements, meaning once players have purchased the game, they get everything.
It's likely to be a divisive title, given how far it strays from the incredibly well-received Elden Ring, but given how it shares more than a little of its DNA, you have to believe FromSoft knows what it's doing.
