GTA 5's Short Stay On PS Plus Is Almost Over Already

Summary
- GTA 5 will be leaving PS Plus on June 18, only six months after it was added to the Extra library.
- Rockstar's juggernaut will be joined by 11 other games that will also be leaving the service on the same day.
- On the bright side, Rockstar's second biggest game Red Dead Redemption 2 has only just been added to PS Plus.
Even though it's still at least 18 months away, the buzz about GTA 6 has already been building for a while. Its release already promises to be one of the biggest days in modern gaming history and after the latest update on sales numbers confirmed GTA 5 has now surpassed 200 million copies sold, it will almost certainly break all sorts of sales records pretty quickly too. GTA 5 hasn't stopped selling yet though, and it might even see an uptick over the next few months as those with PS Plus will soon need to own a copy if they want to carry on playing.
Spotted by Push Square, the games leaving PS Plus's Extra and Premium tiers in June have now been revealed via PlayStation's Last Chance To Play section, and GTA 5 is among them. Not only somewhat surprising as it felt like the game would simply be there to continue pulling people in ahead of GTA 6's release, but also because it was only added to the Extra library in December 2023. Even titles on the service for the short term tend to stay there for at least a year.

PostsIf you have been playing GTA 5 on Extra and it's just GTA Online that you planned on playing beyond the game's removal from PS Plus next month, there is a silver lining, albeit a somewhat faint one. GTA Online can now be bought separately, and it'll cost you half as much as it would to buy the full game on PS5. Not ideal if you have been playing as a part of your subscription up until now, but better than having to buy the entire game, especially if you only plan on playing online from now on.

Powered by Expand CollapseGTA 5 is among 12 titles confirmed to be leaving PS Plus on June 18, Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated the other notable titles among them after GTA 5. These departures come after more than twice as many games left PS Plus in May, a significant chunk of which were Final Fantasy games. If you planned on going back to the original Final Fantasy 7 after playing Rebirth, you'll now have to pay for the privilege if you don't already own a copy.
PlayStation isn't only in the business of removing games from PS Plus, of course. Despite the mass exodus of Final Fantasy games and the imminent departure of GTA 5, Tunic, Cat Quest, and Watch Dogs were all added to the Extra library this month. Best of all though was the addition of Red Dead Redemption 2. Perhaps its arrival explains GTA 5's removal and Rockstar simply doesn't want its two biggest games available on a subscription service at the same time.
