Updated on February 26, 2024, by William Quick: A lot of us are eagerly waiting to continue our journey through the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but we need to be patient. The good news is that we still have the classic version to enjoy and thoroughly complete. The problem is that we're spoiled by all the bells and whistles of modern gaming, and it can be tricky to take a step back spanning a few decades.
Luckily, we can turn to modders and mods like the following to make the original Final Fantasy 7 look and feel amazing.

One of the things that makes Final Fantasy 7 so iconic is the world that you get to explore. Gaia has a memorable overworld with a lot of different areas to visit, many of which stand out at a glance and you'll be spending a lot of time patrolling the map. So, wouldn't it be better if it looked nicer?
One modder has heard your thoughts and created Cosmos Gaia mod for your enjoyment. Once you download and apply the mod, you'll see a whole new coat of texture and detail has been added to Gaia, making it feel like a brand-new place to explore.

Even though it's a turn-based RPG, Final Fantasy 7 was able to make its slower-paced battles feel engaging by updating its Active-Time-Battle system. That being said, the game can still be pretty clunky with some limitations to the combat standing in the way of our party's true potential.
To help address this, we have Postscriptthree's Tweaks, which is a mod tackling a lot of the battle and technical aspects of the game. It introduces a ton like being able to link Materia to anything, removing damage and limit-break barriers, letting you swap party members in battle, and even adding an EXP Share element so inactive characters don't fall behind.

Final Fantasy 7 would be nothing without its well-defined and visually distinctive characters as well as the giant monsters and enemies that they encounter. But, after playing the game for so long, you may start to yearn for a different look or perhaps even a different style.
Someone thought the same and spent time working on the Gaia-VII Remaster mod to add new flair to our beloved cast. It's an overhaul of all the character models covering the party, enemies, bosses, summons, and even mini-games. Your characters can also change into alternate outfits if you feel like dressing up.

One sticking point from the vanilla version of Final Fantasy 7 is the fact that the face packs of the characters are extremely low resolution, leading to them being somewhat jarring to look at. However, a modder has made an easy fix for this.
This mod performs the rather simple function of increasing the resolution of the face icons of all the characters in the main menu. It's a rather simple addition, but a welcome one regardless.

This Final Fantasy 7 mod, simply titled Hard Difficulty (Not Hardcore), was uploaded to Nexus Mods by bigbang6. As the name implies, it adds a second difficulty mode to the original game.
This is nice because the original title never had more than one. For those who want to experience an extra challenge for their hundredth playthrough, this mod might be worth installing.

This mod, simply titled ReMusic, was uploaded to Nexus Mods by The Spirit of FF7. It replaces the original game’s music with the remake’s.
This creates sort of a weird juxtaposition in the game, though, what with the cheap polygonal graphics next to the master class recorded new score. That said, having the option is nice for any of you who want to experience something new.

The PC version of Final Fantasy 7 was full to the brim with glitches and annoyances, which is why so many fans still consider the console version to be superior to this day. One of the biggest oversights of Final Fantasy 7's PC port was the fact that the soundtrack got converted into a MIDI format for some reason!

PostsTo avoid listening to this inferior soundtrack, you need only download the Original BGM mod. Its function is simple enough — the mod replaces the MIDI soundtrack of the PC port with the original music of the game. It's this fact itself that makes it one of the best FF7 mods!

The battle backdrops that Final Fantasy 7 transitions into are certainly quite nostalgia-inducing. However, even the most ardent Final Fantasy 7 fans will have to admit that the textures of these battle areas have aged quite poorly.
If you want these battle textures to be as high quality as possible, you need only download the AVALANCHE ARISEN Battle Textures mod. It's a great Final Fantasy 7 mod for whoever wants every aspect of their game to be as polished and modern as possible.
