- This comes after Baldur's Gate 3 made a Final Fantasy 14 reference with one of its inspiration points.
Final Fantasy 14 players have spotted a Baldur's Gate 3 easter egg in Dawntrail, referencing one of its best-known music tracks. As shared by fans online, one of the new quests is called Downed by the River, which is likely a reference to Down by the River by composer Borislav Slavov.
This comes after Baldur's Gate 3 snuck in a reference to Final Fantasy 14, which was quickly spotted by fans of the MMO last year. Now, it looks like the Dawntrail devs wanted to return the favour, including this Baldur's Gate easter egg in the new update.
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Quest Named After Baldur's Gate 3 Theme
While we don't know for sure that Downed by the River was named after the song, it seems pretty likely. It's the connection that most players are making anyway, which isn't surprising, given how much of an earworm the Baldur's Gate 3 song is - we're not getting it out of our heads anytime soon.
It follows on from Baldur's Gate 3 making a pretty heartbreaking reference to Final Fantasy 14. One of the inspiration points for characters with the Folk Hero background is called "A Smile Better Suits...". This is a reference to the character Haurchefant Greystone - or at least to the final words he spoke before he died. Needless to say, that stuck with the Final Fantasy 14 fans who also picked up Baldur's Gate 3.
But this isn't the only reference that fans have found in the Dawntrail update. It also includes a nod to the infamous low-poly grapes from the Endwalker expansion. The team certainly isn't afraid to poke fun at itself.
