How To Increase Hearts
The most important thing to do when pursuing a single villager is increase your heart rank. Hearts indicate how close you are with said character(s), and the more hearts you have, the better.
All villagers have hearts, but only the marriage candidates' hearts are relevant to romance.
Every two hearts, the color of the jewel heart next to a marriage candidate's name will change. This can help you keep track of your relationship status.
To earn more hearts, you'll need to chat with your desired partner daily and give them gifts. It can be difficult to find the perfect gift every single day, so it's a good idea to give flowers or food that they like instead.
Make sure to give your potential partner one of their loved gifts on their birthday for an additional boost in friendship!
How To Unlock Heart Events
Every two hearts, you'll unlock a new heart event with your potential partner. You'll receive a letter in the mail with details about where to meet your soon-to-be-sweetheart to initiate the event.
If you don't get a letter, check the request board for a post with a heart on it!
You'll know that you have the right letter if there's a little heart icon on it. Sometimes, the letters will come from friends or family of the single villager, like Olric or Landen, so stay vigilant so you can see each event.
These events will let you get closer to your partner and see more of their day-to-day life. Witnessing these events shows how your relationship grows and it allows you to directly engage with them in new ways.
At the moment, there are only two heart events for each candidate, but more are on the way.
