Elden Ring's Tarnished Edition Content Is Not Switch 2 Exclusive, But You Will Have To Pay For It
Elden Ring is still coming to Nintendo Switch 2 even though there's been radio silence on the Tarnished Edition since it was delayed out of 2025. FromSoftware is finally ready to put a new release date on the port, and the studio has confirmed the additional content added to the game won't be locked to the new Nintendo console.
Elden Ring Comes To Switch 2 This Summer
Those waiting for a way to play the 2022 Game of the Year on Switch 2 don't have to wait much longer. The Tarnished Edition arrives on August 28, 2026. That's the same day that the extra content will be made available to those who already own Elden Ring on other platforms via the Tarnished DLC pack. The bad news is you're going to have to pay for it.
"The additional content included in #ELDENRING Tarnished Edition will also be available for purchase on other platforms. The Tarnished Pack DLC will launch on August 28, 2026," a follow-up post on Elden Ring's X account to the release date reveal confirms. That even includes PS4 and Xbox One, as even though the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was a next-gen exclusive, the Tarnished DLC can be used alongside the base game, which was a cross-gen release.
The biggest selling point of the Tarnished Edition outside of finally being able to play Elden Ring on Switch 2 is that it's effectively a complete edition and will include Shadow of the Erdtree. That's why it's so expensive and costs $80. The Tarnished DLC pack doesn't have a price yet, but it will not include Shadow of the Erdtree. That will still have to be bought separately or bundled with the base game on other platforms.
What Will The Tarnished Pack DLC Include?
So what exactly do you get in the Tarnished DLC that isn't already in Elden Ring? Not much by the sounds of it, which might be why long-time Elden Ring players seem a little peeved that they're going to have to pay for it. The pack will include two new starting classes, more armor, and the ability to customize your horse, Torrent.
Again, how much FromSoftware plans to charge for the DLC pack hasn't been revealed yet. The consensus seems to be that if it costs $5, most of you won't mind paying it. The bundle that gets you Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree on other platforms costs $79.99, the same price as the Tarnished Edition on Switch 2. That means, whatever the cost of the Tarnished Pack, owning everything Elden Ring has to offer on other platforms is going to cost more than it does on Switch 2, even if that pack is only $5.
