Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a massive DLC with more content than an entire game, and some of the greatest addons to the Elden Ring experience. This includes entire areas, great new boss fights and a colorful cast of new NPC characters with their own quest lines in the Land of Shadow.

When playing Elden Ring, sometimes it can help to summon an NPC for a boss fight - but which summons are the best?

One of these NPCs is Thiollier, someone you run into as you progress through the main story. You’ll find him near Pillar Path Cross, around the Castle Ensis area, and as one of Miquella’s loyal followers, he introduces himself to you.

Who Is Thiollier?

Thiollier is no warrior, but he’s great at poison crafting. Before Miquella’s spell is broken, he concocts an elixir that can straight up kill you, with the help of Moore of the forager brood, and gives you some which you can drink to subsequently die.

Give the elixir to the Dragon Communion Priestess found at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion to progress her quest line.

Thiollier hints at this in one of his dialogues where he describes the elixir as something capable of putting even the most ancient of dragons to sleep.

After Miquella discards his great rune and his spell on the NPCs is lifted, Thiollier recalls his devotion to St. Trina and feels guilty because of it. He then moves southward towards Stone Coffin Fissure, his path blocked by the Putrescent knight until you both defeat him together.

After defeating this really tough remembrance boss, you’ll find Thiollier basking in St. Trina’s nectar, trying really hard to fall asleep deep enough to hear St. Trina in his head. He believes he’s the chosen one, but unfortunately for him, it turns out to be you.

St. Trina And Thiollier

Close

After defeating the Putrescent Knight, with or without the help of Thiollier, you can enter a cave that leads to an area covered in St. Trina’s lilies and St. Trina herself. St. Trina is the discarded half of Miquella and the love that he abandoned, much like what Radagon is to Marika, the same person but conflicting personalities.

Thiollier seems to be borderline obsessed with St. Trina and abandons Miquella’s mission, which you can snitch about to Needle Knight Leda, (though she decides he’s not a big threat).

If you indulge yourself in St. Trina’s nectar many times, at some point, St. Trina will confide in you. St. Trina will mention Miquella’s ascension to Godhood being a mistake and that you, the player, must kill him and put him out of his misery.

Telling Thiollier that you heard St. Trina, while slumbering, will enrage him, and he'll say that it should’ve been him, even going as far as to invade your world not long after. Killing his phantom will give you St. Trina's smile, a very niche talisman in the DLC with an item description that basically quotes Thiollier's feelings for St. Trina.

Only I am allowed to know. Of your velvety sleep. Its sweetly gentle embrace. So please, smile—for me, and only me.

After defeating his phantom, he decides to help you from here on out in fulfilling St. Trina's hope of having Miquella killed, despite it killing St. Trina too. The end of Thiollier can be brought upon by summoning him to fight Needle Knight Leda and her allies and then fight the final boss alongside Sir Ansbach (if you progress his quest line as well).

Thiollier is no doubt one of the more interesting characters you’ll find in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and one of the few tarnished you’ll be friends with, in a forsaken world such as the Land of Shadow.
