Summary

  • Elden Ring's massive world hides 25 illusory walls (and floors!) in the base game, challenging you to find them all.
  • Data miners discovered the exact number of illusory walls, so you don't need to look for more of them.
  • Using incantations or tools like Margit’s Shackle can reveal illusory walls, saving time and effort in exploration.

One of the appeals of Elden’s Ring’s massive world is that there are so many secrets that are, seemingly, hidden in plain sight. One of these things that is, quite literally, hidden in plain sight are illusory walls. Illusory walls crop up around areas where you might think that you’re stuck but, if you bash the wall with your weapon, you’re more than likely to find a hidden passage.

Regardless of how you learn about illusory walls, they are simply one of Elden Ring’s many secrets. However, given how well-hidden these secrets are, it can be difficult to discern just how many illusory walls are in Elden Ring.

There Are 25 Illusory Walls In Elden Ring’s Base Game

Although 25 Illusory Walls might not seem like a lot, when you don’t know where they are, it can prove to be a hefty challenge. After all, it’s not like you can go around and smack every wall that you happen to come across in the hopes of finding every illusory wall.

Thankfully, data miners are ahead of the curve and managed to find that there were only 25 total walls throughout Elden Ring’s base game. Given how massive the game feels and realistically is, it’s pretty easy to cast doubt on there being such a low number, but it’s nothing but the truth!

Although most locations only have one illusory wall at most, the Academy of Raya Lucaria has three scattered throughout and the Kingsrealm Ruins have two - an illusory wall and an illusory floor.

Revealing The Illusory Walls

If running around and smacking walls proves to be a bit tedious for you, then you can opt to use an incantation, the Law of Regression, or one of two reusable tools, Margit's Shackle or Mohg's Shackle. Using any of these three things will reveal illusory walls, sparing you both time and effort. The hardest part is really just going to be getting your hands on any of them.

If you want to get your hands on the Law of Regression, you're going to need to give Brother Corhyn or Miriel, the Pastor of Vows the Golden Order Pincipia prayerbook. After that, you should be able to buy it from them for 10,000 Runes - a hefty price to pay.

For Margit's Shackle, you'll need to pay 5,000 Runes to Patches, or after giving the Twin Maiden Husks Patches' Bell Bearing, you can buy it from them - a less hefty price, but still one that holds a significant impact.

If you want Mohg's Shackle, you'll need to head to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds in Leyndell Royal Capital. Find your way to two Giant Crayfish, defeat them, and you'll be able to get your hands on the Shackle that they're guarding.

There Are Five Illusory Walls In Shadow of The Erdtree

Compared to the 25 in the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree introduces a very small amount of illusory walls, only reaching five in total. However, two of those walls can be found at Shadow Keep.

The other three are found at Midra’s Manse, Lamenter’s Gaol, and Rabbath’s Rise, respectively. Which means, if you have the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there are a grand total of 30 illusory walls scattered throughout the Lands Between.

Not an overly impressive number, but perhaps their rarity is part of what makes them so hard to find and so much of a surprise when you do manage to find one. Well, that’s assuming you’re not following a guide to where each illusory wall is.
