Elden Ring lore nuts know that the Golden Order's family tree is pretty damned complicated. What's even harder to parse is just which order various siblings were born. We know that Miquella and Malenia are twins, as well as the Omens Mohg and Morgott, but when was Godwyn born of Queen Marika and Godfrey? Where does Melina even fit? And what about the three siblings born of Radagon and Rennala? Unlike the rest of the Elden Ring demigods, those three aren't twins, so we have no idea who was born first, second, and third.

Perhaps we'll find out in the recently announced Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but in the meantime, Tarnished over on the Elden Ring subreddit are having a heated debate on which child of Rennala is the oldest and whether Ranni is the middle or youngest child.

Just to recap, Starscourge Radahn is the enormous gravity magic-wielding boss you fight in Caelid, while Praetor Rykard is the thing that merged with the giant serpent at Volcano Manor. Ranni the Witch is someone you meet very early on in your Elden Ring journey and has a game-spanning quest to unlock her ending, the Age of Stars.

None of that really tells us who was born first, but Redditors have a few theories. Perhaps the best argument comes from mrhippoj who laid it out like this:

  • Rykard - jaded, political, outcast - obviously the eldest
  • Radahn - jock, attention seeker, chip on his shoulder - obviously the middle
  • Ranni - literally gets away with murder, mummy's girl - obviously the youngest

This list certainly seems obvious, and many are convinced that Ranni is the youngest of the three. User Fabuzer noted that the Japanese text refers to Ranni as "imouto," or younger sister, keeping her out of the running for eldest sibling but not entirely eliminating the possibility of being the middle child.

One good argument for Rykard being the oldest comes courtesy of Foreveramateur: "Rykard has white hair on his intro image (when he's getting devouaaaad by the serpent) so I assume he's oldest." Again, it's a flimsy argument, but that's mostly all we have.

Well except for SecXy94, who uses the old rock/paper/scissors argument, only it's "Snake > Horse > Doll." That'd put Rykard as the oldest, Radahn the middlest, and Ranni the youngest. Maybe some lore in the upcoming DLC will put this argument to bed, but for now, the debate rages on.
