Summary

  • Glintstone Sorceries are crucial in Elden Ring, providing impressive damage even against powerful bosses.
  • Erdtree Incantations are more useful, allowing significant damage and self-healing abilities.
  • Finding the right Sorcery can be tricky, but the Glintstone Cometshard strikes a good balance.

Glintstone Sorceries are among the most basic options you’ll find in Elden Ring, but that doesn’t mean you should overlook them. They are going to be your bread and butter for much of the game, and can deal impressive damage even against the most powerful bosses in the Lands Between.

Much more useful than other types of spells, the Erdtree Incantations will let you deal significant damage while also healing yourself in a great way.

However, Glintstone Soceries are also one of the largest categories of spell in Elden Ring; as such, it can be difficult to determine which of them really stand out among the rest. Fortunately, this list is here to help.

10 Glintstone Cometshard

Intelligence Requirement

36

FP Cost

17

Effect

Fire a large magical comet

Glintstone Cometshard is not the most efficient nor the strongest of the comet-style spells, but it strikes something of a balance between the two. It isn’t going to beat Comet in terms of damage, but it comes at a cheaper cost and is castable at a much lower level.

And if you can’t yet afford the best option, settling for second isn’t so bad. You can buy Glintstone Cometshard after picking up the Conspectus Scroll in Raya Lucaria Academy, then give it to one of the Lands Between’s many Sorcery vendors.

Wearing Azur’s Glintstone Crown will increase the damage of this Sorcery by ten percent.

9 Rock Blaster

Intelligence Requirement

21

FP Cost

22 (5 while channeled)

Effect

Channel to create a magical drill, then slam it into the ground

Rock Blaster looks ridiculous, but it’s a surprisingly effective spell. Sure, it’s not going to be great in every scenario, but if you can get close enough to your enemy, you’ll start dealing significant damage.

It helps that Rock Blaster grants you some hyper armor, allowing you to poise through many (though not all) attacks, and using a Staff to drill magic directly into your opponent’s skull is immensely satisfying. You can pick Rock Blaster up inside a chest in the Selia Crystal Tunnel, in Caelid.

The Digger's Staff boosts the damage of this Sorcery by twenty percent.

8 Star Shower

Intelligence Requirement

24

FP Cost

23

Effect

Fire six shooting stars that track enemies

Star Shower doesn’t have much utility in PvE, but it is an absolute scourge when fighting other players. Dodging all the projectiles it summons is extremely difficult, allowing you to steadily chip down your enemies from afar, so a more competent opponent will probably be able to take you down if it’s the only spell you use, but it’s a great tool in any PvP sorcerer’s arsenal.

Elden Ring: Every Death Sorcery, Ranked

Let's get it out of the way: Death Sorceries might be the worst spells in Elden Ring. But hey, at least a few are interesting enough.

It helps that the more impressive Stars of Ruin received massive nerfs, which pushed its smaller, cheaper brother into the spotlight. Just like Glinstone Cometshard, you can buy Star Shower after heading to Raya Lucaria and picking up the Conspectus Scroll, then giving it to a Sorcery vendor.

Wearing Lusat’s Glintstone Crown will increase the damage of this Sorcery by ten percent.

7 Crystal Barrage

Intelligence Requirement

23

FP Cost

14 (2 While channeled)

Effect

Fire a volley of magical shards

You can find Crystal Barrage being sold right away at the start of the game by Sorceress Sellen. At that point, it won’t do all that much damage, and it also has less range than you probably want, requiring you to stand still while casting it.

However, as the game progresses, you will eventually reach a level at which its damage becomes undeniably powerful and comes at a fairly efficient rate. That usually won’t happen until the end of the game or even New Game Plus, but if you’re patient you’ll end up with a solid spell.

6 Shard Spiral

Intelligence Requirement

27

FP Cost

14

Effect

Fire a pair of spiraling projectiles

The slow-moving projectiles of Shard Spiral don’t seem that impressive at first glance, and even if you manage to hit your enemy with them, their damage can be underwhelming. But use it on a big, slow enemy, and you’ll immediately understand why this spell ranks so highly on this list.

It will hit multiple times as it slowly passes through your foe’s body; with the right positioning and timing, this can be one of the highest-damage Sorceries in the game. It’s sold by Sellen if you finish her questline in her favor.

5 Comet

Intelligence Requirement

52

FP Cost

24

Effect

Fire a massive magical comet

Like some of the other spells on this list, you can acquire the Comet too early for you to afford its hefty requirements. It’s hidden behind an invisible wall near the Debate Parlor Site of Grace in Raya Lucaria; the odds of you having 52 Intelligence at that point in the game are pretty low.

That said, Comet is the biggest in the chain of Sorceries that started with Glintstone Pebble, so it’s not FP-efficient, and you need a massive amount of Intelligence to cast it. But who cares? You are using Sorceries; your optimal strategy is to put all your levels into Mind and Intelligence and cast whatever spell gets you the most damage; Comet is going to get you there.

Wearing Azur’s Glintstone Crown will increase the damage of this Sorcery by ten percent.

4 Gavel Of Haima

Intelligence Requirement

25

FP Cost

22

Effect

Create a giant magical hammer to crush your enemies

Gavel of Haima is one of the game’s most effective tools for breaking enemy Stances and is also great for catching enemies off-guard when they try to rush you. Neither of those factors should be too surprising since they also apply to hitting your enemy with a normal with a normal giant hammer.

As a result, Gavel of Haima is one of the most effective close-range Sorceries in the game; not the most effective, since Carian Slicer exists, but it competes with anything other than that. It can be found in the Converted Fringe Tower, in Liurnia of the Lakes.

You’ll need the Erudition Gesture from Thops to get inside the Converted Fringe Tower.

3 Cannon Of Haima

Intelligence Requirement

25

FP Cost

38

Effect

Lob a large explosive projectile

Explosions are probably more associated with Incantations than Sorceries, but Cannon of Haima shows that the Intelligence side of Elden Ring’s spellcasting is more than capable of blowing things up. It’s particularly good in PvP, where having the ability to free-aim it, combined with the massive explosion radius, makes it hard for your opponents to avoid.

The same can be true against faster PvE enemies, although there are better Sorceries for dealing with massive endgame bosses. You can find the Cannon in the Converted Fringe Tower along with Gavel of Haima.

2 Swift Glintstone Shard

Intelligence Requirement

12

FP Cost

5

Effect

Fire a small, rapid magical projectile

Swift Glintstone Shard is an extremely fast and efficient spell; in both PvE and PvP, it’s a great option for getting chip damage in circumstances when slower spells might be too inconvenient. The only thing holding this Sorcery back is that it’s strictly worse than Night Shard if you are using a double Staff of Loss setup.

Still, if you haven’t moved to New Game Plus for a second Staff of Loss, or simply aren’t focusing on Night Sorceries, Swift Glintstone Shard is a great option. You can buy the spell after picking up the Academy Scroll in a graveyard west of the Lake-Facing Cliffs Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes, then giving it to any of Elden Ring’s Sorcery trainers.

1 Terra Magica

Intelligence Requirement

20

FP Cost

20

Effect

Create a small area in which Magic damage is increased by 35 percent (20 percent in PvP)

Terra Magica is not without its flaws; the area it covers is extremely small, and standing still is generally not a great idea in a game like Elden Ring. However, the damage boost you get for doing so is massive.

If your goal is to deal the maximum amount of damage with Sorceries, you’re going to want Terra Magica in your arsenal. And if you don’t care about reaching the highest heights of damage, what are you playing a Sorcerer for in the first place? The spell is hidden in one of Elden Ring’s more unusual locations, the Academy Crystal Cave, up a ladder behind the boss.
