When the original PlayStation debuted, it stood out as one of the first consoles to fully master movement in three dimensions, and evidence of this can be seen all the way back in the first Spyro game. The platformer has aged surprisingly well, and it's still easy to pick up and play in the modern era.

Sony's first portable console was a surprise success for the company, and while it had plenty of amazing standalone titles, it also became the home of many spin-off titles for the PlayStation big-hitters. One spin-off that has stood the test of time well is Crisis Core, a prequel to the phenomenal Final Fantasy 7.

The action-RPG gameplay would go on to inspire the style of gameplay that the mainline Final Fantasy franchise uses today, making it incredibly ahead of its time. With the massive impact that The Last Of Us has had since its launch as a swan-song title of the PS3, it's understandable that some people might roll their eyes seeing it listed as the best for the console. However, returning to the original cut of the first title in this short series shows you just how well it has aged.

The Last Of Us masters the combination of narrative and game elements, with neither lacking nor letting up through the game's entire run. Having such a good mix of story and gameplay is something games still struggle with, so it's impressive that such a masterclass still holds up.

With a massive library, it's perhaps the most challenging to label any title on the PS4 as the best, but the remake of the classic Final Fantasy 7 proved just how well a decades-old game can be brought back to life.

While the first Horizon game on the PS4 was a fantastic title to start a new series, the direct sequel on the PS5 takes full advantage of the system's capabilities to create a jaw-droppingly beautiful follow-up that expands on the gameplay of the original, forming an unforgettable experience.

Everything is just bigger and better compared to the original, with more varied scenery, interesting exploration, and twists on the combat to keep it fresh throughout the run-time. With how much effort is put into a massive title like Forbidden West, it's amazing to see just how well it turned out.
