Summary

  • Sparking Zero already has a lot of versions of Goku and Vegeta in its roster.
  • Two forms it's missing as separate transformations, though, are Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken and Evolution.
  • Although both are included as techniques in the final game, they were seemingly going to be actual forms that could be permanently turned into.

A dataminer has found evidence in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's files that Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolution and Goku's Blue Kaioken were originally going to be transformations.

Even if you're not a massive diehard fan of Dragon Ball, one thing is very, very clear about Sparking Zero - it has a hell of a lot of Goku and Vegeta variants. Do you want to know something wild, though? Fans actually wanted there to be even more versions of Dragon Ball's protagonists in the fourth Budokai Tenkaichi game.

When Sparking Zero was first revealed, fans got a glimpse of Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken form, which many presumed to be a transformation. The same was thought about Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolution form when it was shown off, but it turned out that both are just temporary forms that can be taken using skill points.

Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken And Evolution Were Going To Be Transformations In Sparking Zero

Even though Spike Chunsoft massively buffed Vegeta's Evolution so it lasted longer, a lot of fans still really wanted a separate character for both of these forms. Strangely, it seems like that was actually the plan at one point in development, as a recent datamine has unearthed character profile images for both forms.

For those that don't know, both of the Super Saiyan Blue upgrades don't have unique character portraits at any point in the game as they're just temporary forms that can be taken after using skill counts. However, as highlighted by Twitter user DBSparkingNews, the files for Sparking Zero contain transformation portraits for both forms that suggest they were going to be separate forms altogether.

You can tell from the images shared above (which are the kind that you see in the transformation wheel) that the Vegeta shown is in his Blue Evolution state since his hair and eyes are a different shade, while Goku is glowing red like he's just used Kaioken. It's not clear why Spike changed its mind and made both take up Skill Count instead, but it's a bit of a shame considering how unique the forms are.

It's possible that these were just created for the Custom Battle mode or as online portraits, but it seems a lot more likely they are indeed meant to take up their own slot on the roster. We'll have to see what else gets dug up from the Sparking Zero datamines, but it's a sad day for Super Saiyan Blue fans.
