Summary

  • Zombie Genocider asks you to kill thousands of zombies, which should be easy, but it's a bit repetitive.
  • Transmissionary is the most annoying one, since you need to answer and trigger every Otis call.
  • 7 Day Survivor asks you to... well, survive seven days (in-game time, at least).

Back in the early Xbox 360 days, Dead Rising was one of the more notoriously difficult games to fully complete. Getting that full 1,000 Gamerscore was tough as nails, and it's only slightly easier on the newer systems. Much of the difficulty will come from the survivors, who have terrible AI, and you'll want to do a perfect run, saving each one for maximum optimization.

Best Zombie Games

Zombies being in video games is almost as old as the gaming industry itself, and here we look at the best games with the living dead in them.

In the original version, there was only one save slot, and no ports besides the Deluxe Remaster had autosaves. The lack of a fast-forward option also really hurts, making the classic version more of a time-sink.

This list is for the classic Dead Rising, not the Deluxe Remaster version.

7 Zombie Genocider

An Achievement You Should Grab Right Away

Value

Description

20G/Gold

Defeat at least 53,594 zombies.

If you're looking to get 1,000G or the platinum as fast as possible, you'll want to get the Zombie Genocider achievement immediately on your first playthrough. Getting it is easy but very time-consuming and boring. You'll want to spend most of your 72 hours racking up kills in the maintenance tunnels using cars.

Cars eventually break, but there's several you can swap to, and you'll also want to save occasionally as a backup if you die or something else happens. After getting your 53,594 kills, you'll still need to wait for the helicopter to arrive to achieve your ending and unlock the Real Mega Buster. This weapon makes the remaining achievements far easier as it shreds through zombies and the bosses.

6 Saint

Getting A Perfect Run Is Brutal But Satisfying As All Hell

Value

Description

20G/Gold

Get at least 50 survivors out of the mall.

After getting your trusty Real Mega Buster, you'll want to do a perfect run, saving every survivor while achieving the true ending. This is the hardest pure challenge of Dead Rising. The AI of the survivors is notoriously bad, but the key here is to just clear the path of zombies using either the Real Mega Buster, Katana, or Small Chainsaw, and the survivors should follow you as intended.

You'll want to use a guide here as you can screw up the triggers for side missions, and there's unmarked quests that Otis won't call you about. Like Sierra adventure games, make sure to save early and save often. An important note here is that the Saint achievement won't pop after completing the 72 Hour mode, but if you continue into Overtime and beat it, then it'll unlock.

5 Perfect Gunner

Tricky, Until You Discover The Secret

Value

Description

20G/Bronze

Don't miss with a machine gun.

One of the shortest achievement descriptions in the game is Perfect Gunner, and for this, you must use an actual machine gun, not a submachine gun. These come from the special forces members you'll see near the end of the game or in Overtime mode. You must hit each and every one of those 150 bullets, and doing this on actual enemies can be a bit annoying.

However, enemies aren't the only ones that count for the achievement. You can actually blast these shots directly into a vehicle or a piece of meat where the Butcher's located and get the achievement. Pretty easy, but how would you know that beforehand?

4 Gourmet

Another Achievement Where A Guide's An Absolute Must

Value

Description

20G/Bronze

Eat all types of food available in the mall.

Gourmet is an achievement that seems really easy on the surface. You simply have to eat every type of food in the game, and with a keen eye, you can probably spot them all. However, there's one trick to the food system that most won't know about. Certain types of food can become degraded over time.

Examples include Frozen Vegetables, which can turn into Thawed Vegetables, and Ice Pops, which can turn into Melted Ice Pops. You have to wait 15 minutes for the degradation to occur in your inventory, which is unlikely to happen as you'll probably use it before then. How are you supposed to figure this out? At least with the Steak and Pizza, you can probably guess they can be spoiled, but not with the Ice Pops and Veggies.

3 Karate Champ

You'll Have Shattered Fists By The Time You Get The Achievement

Value

Description

20G/Bronze

Defeat at least 1,000 zombies barehanded.

Karate Champ wouldn't be too hard if it wasn't for the fact you have to kill 1,000 total zombies. That's a lot to kill with unarmed moves, and if you attempt this at a low level, it'll take a really long time.

You'll want to get the Double Lariat skill unlocked at level 18 and just spam that over and over until you get the achievement. Even then, it'll take quite a while to get 1,000 kills total.

2 Transmissionary

The Most Annoying Achievement

Value

Description

20G/Bronze

Answer all calls from Otis.

Getting called by Otis is not the best thing to happen, as your movement is extremely limited while on the call. Many people will probably ignore him, but for the Transmissionary achievement, you must answer and finish every possible call in the game. While you can get this during your Saint playthrough, it's much more convenient to do it on a separate one.

You'll have to use a guide here as receiving every call is quite strict, with you needing to be in certain spots and rescue certain survivors. You don't need to rescue all survivors, but you'll have to rescue some for future side missions to trigger and for survivor-specific side missions. This achievement can be a bit glitchy, so make sure the full call plays out and you don't get interrupted.

1 7 Day Survivor

The 14 Hour Grind

Close

Value

Description

20G/Gold

Survive for at least 7 days.

For the longest time, 7 Day Survivor was widely regarded as one of the hardest achievements in gaming history. You'll be playing in Infinity mode and must survive for seven days, with each day being about two hours in real-time. This means you'll have to play for 14 hours straight. With how prone the OG 360 was to overheat and the Red Ring of Death, this achievement was seemingly impossible.

Thankfully, it's far easier on newer machines, especially on Xbox Series X|S with the Quick Resume feature. That feature allows you to get this achievement over several days, and you'll probably want to, considering the updated ports can crash. You're best off turning off the Xbox Series X|S for a 15-20 minute break every in-game day to avoid crashing.
