Dark Souls Archthrones is one of the most comprehensive mods that Dark Souls 3 has ever received. It not only adds many new bosses, locations and NPCs, but new weapons as well. Spears, greatswords, katanas and more have been added. Part of the fun of this mod is selecting the right tool to help you master the hardest challenges.

Every FromSoftware Souls Game, Ranked

FromSoftware may have the best Souls games, but which are the best of the best?

Posts

Like any Dark Souls experience, the Archthrones mod is not a walk in the park, even for veterans of FromSoftware series. To help make your journey a little easier (and a lot more fun), you'll need to carefully select which weapons to use. Here are some of the best tools the mod gives you.

All weapons in this article were added as part of the Dark Souls Archthrones Demo mod and cannot be found in the standard version of the game. Dark Souls Archthrones was made by the Archthrones team, and can be downloaded here.

8 Emissary Blade

One of the first weapons you can find in this mod is one of the most trusty for most builds. The Emissary Blade is a standard straight sword that acts as this mod's equivalent of the common Broadsword or Longsword.

It may not have impressive stats at first, but like many straight swords, it can be upgraded and prove useful throughout most of the adventure. As an added bonus for Faith builds, its Emissary's Oath ability will heal you slightly, which definitely comes in handy during a jam.

7 Old Greatsword

If straight swords aren't your style, then you'll feel right at home at Archthrones with a weapon like the Old Greatsword. It has a unique look to it that makes it look weathered, curved and dangerous all at once.

Every Single Dark Souls 3 Boss In Order

Dark Souls 3 is known for its relentless difficulty level and its legendary boss fights. Here, we take a look at every boss you will encounter!

Its Stomp ability will be familiar to fans of Dark Souls 3, and with decent strength scaling, it can be a great weapon for builds that emphasize poise over blocking. It's not the flashiest looking weapon but makes quick work of many of the enemies you'll encounter.

6 Cup Hilt Rapier

Rapiers have had many dedicated advocates across the Dark Souls series. They are fast, accurate, and work exceptionally well in crowded areas that don't offer a lot of room for swimming. If this playstyle and moveset is your cup of tea, the Cup Hilt Rapier will be a great choice.

Like any rapier in Dark Souls, the Cup Hilt Rapier is very lightweight. This makes it great for min/max builds that don't want to level vitality or endurance, allowing you to only focus on vigor and dexterity. Thanks to solid dex scaling from the get-go, this can become a very deadly weapon in very little time.

5 Baptismal Guard Blade

If you're the type of Dark Souls player who likes to level up as many different stats as possible, then heed the Baptismal Guard Blade. Not only does it look striking, but it scales in strength, dexterity, intelligence and faith. It's an expensive weapon to use, but it can easily become one of the Archthrones mod's best boss killers.

The Baptismal Guard Blade deals both physical and dark damage. It is heavy, even by greatsword standards, so make sure your stats are up to par before wielding it.

4 Queensguard Cross-Spear

Lightning damage weapons have always been popular in Dark Souls games, which is why the Queensguard Cross-Spear is such a great new addition from this mod. It deals both physical and lightning damage, making it quite effective against many enemies in the mod.

It requires a lot of dexterity to use, but it's Heide's Thunder ability more than makes up for it. It not only summons an electric shockwave to devastate opponents, but also buffs your weapon with extra lightning damage for a small FP cost.

3 Apostle Scythe

It's heavy, it's sharp and it causes blood loss. What else does a weapon need? Some people consider scythes to be some of the most underrated weapons in Souls games, and the new Apostle Scythe makes a great case for this view.

Requiring both strength and dexterity, this can be a solid mid-game weapon to use once you've explored a couple of the main areas. It's Neck Swipe ability costs very little FP and has great range and damage. It will come in handy against the trickiest and fastest of bosses in this mod.

2 Necromancer's Konda

That's right — the Archthrones mod includes new boss weapons as well. After you've defeated one of the tougher bosses in the game, you will be allowed to spend that boss soul and purchase one of the coolest curved weapons in the mod: the Nercomancer's Konda.

Thanks to its cool moveset, it's one of the most unique feeling weapons this mod adds. It's a great fit for pyromancy builds, too. The Ghastly Strike weapon is particularly devastating and will make you feel like a boss in your own right.

1 Phoenix Zweihander

Close

There is no denying just how popular ultra greatswords are among the Dark Souls community. Ever since Dark Souls 1, ultra greatswords have been a popular choice for both newcomers and experts to the games. In Archthrones, you can continue loving these devastating blades by using the Phoenix Zweihander.

The Phoenix Zweihander can be acquired as a dropped item from the Old Guard enemies at Phoenix Tower, Irithyll.

Use a Rusted Gold Coin to increase your item discovery, which can be purchased from the merchant Ebrius at the Nexus of Embers.

Though it may look like the beloved Zweihander from previous games, the Phoenix Zweihander deals fire damage as well as physical damage, as implied by the name. What better weapon to use when completing your journey to link the fire itself?
