  • Dungeon & Fighter spin-offs expanding with anime, manga, and novel.
  • Neople aims to reach wider audience beyond Dungeon & Fighter fanbase.

The Dungeon & Fighter franchise may not be the biggest in the West, but it's a series that has a large following in Asia. "Although the game has clear Souls DNA, it could end up as some strange, messy hybrid that fails to commit to anything."

The series' success in the Asian market, plus the imminent release of The First Berserker: Khazan, a Soulslike set in the DNF universe, has the franchise creators wanting to capitalize. Speaking exclusively to TheGamer, Khazan's creative director, Junho Lee, shared that Neople is working on an anime, a manga, and a novel of Dungeon & Fighter.

Dungeon & Fighter Spin-Offs Will Be Coming

When discussing the reach of the Dungeon & Fighter world with us at TheGamer, Lee shared that during the creation of The First Berserker: Khazan, the team "Started development with the premise that there will be more users who don’t know about Dungeon & Fighter than do,”

“So, at the beginning of development, our goal was to have more people enjoy it as much as we do. The whole idea was to appeal to more users and people who like console action games,” he added.

However, while they're aware it doesn't have full global appeal, the team has full confidence in the franchise, citing it as their biggest inspiration for Khazan over the FromSoftware games. It's this confidence that led Lee to tell me, "Not only that, but we're also working on books, anime, and comics."

Although he couldn't share any more details, this would mark Korean developer Neople's second attempt at cracking the anime and manga markets. In 2009, the company released Slap-up Party: Arad Senki, a Dungeon & Fighter spin-off. The adaptation received a 26-episode anime run and a single manga volume published in Monthly Birz.
